I thought I have rest long enough . After suffering "hip bursitis pain" on the 27 aug . I rested 1 week from that day totally with no running . I ran on 5 Sept and the pain after flared up just 1 km and I stopped running immediately... Today after 10 days which is 15 sept . I tried again and suffered pain again just after 800m. I guess I had to kiss my running exercise good bye for this year and really need to focus on full recovery . Can forget about this year 😞 SCSM 2025.

I going for a physiotherapy next week and see how it goes .

All the best for the recovery. Really gotta properly diagnose with extensive imaging.
Cant be so long one, it shd be on a positive trajectory with slow improvements, even if it is not fully recovered.

Thanks for the recommendation! Glad to know u recovered. 🙏

So how bro, got test the side leg raises or isometrically holding it and see how long you can hold?

Can try sales69 strengthening the psoas /hip flextors too. That means the motion involved lifting your leg up in front of you (might need to use a resistance band later but for now you can use the weight of your legs)

I also forgot that strengthening the quads with even simple isometric wall sits might help. Actually at the same time if you are doing quads, need to strengthen hamstrings as well.
Unfortunately, might need to strengthen a fair bit.

Ultimately, you might wanna get some of those mini resistance bands. Check youtube on how to use.
I recommend this set. ...which i posted several times in this thread before and i think some have gotten it.

Did you ran in new shoes? :(

Try stretching and strengthening hip flexors. That worked for me.

If you can do Bulgarian squat, it will help stretch and strengthen.

Or try holding on to a chair and get into Bulgarian squat position. Even doing this brings big relief when I had ITB problem last time.

Good luck with your recovery!

Actually even for cycling, training the hip flexors can help pedaling efficiency and reduce risk of pain/injury no matter how small that might be.

Some folks are just extremely weak in certain areas, esp those into middle aged. Sitting in office for decades is one of the main causes. Weak gluteus medius is very prevalent.
But then they just hoot in their new found sports/hobby and over time it adds up until some pecah.
Like during covid that time, either running or esp cycling.
Youngsters might not suffer from this of coz.

ps. Quite a fair number of folks at my block dont even wanna climb 1 storey up from 1st sty to second sty carpark, or B1 carpark to first storey. Every week i sure come across a few cases one.
One HDB storey how high only, is like 3.5 metres.
And no they are not sick nor are they elderly.
Unfortunately, the story is like elderly and their wheelchairs / walkers, the more they use those aids, the faster they "RIP", just ask any geriatric nurse/specialist.

Using the same method as the first vid without standing on a weight. Lol. Can manage 15-20 reps. Only 1 set for now. Also incorporated massaging and stretching, before attempting the strengthening method. Definitely can feel more relaxed, and the pain at both knees less intense. These exercises really make me shag sia..

Will update the thread again when I see further improvement. 😊

Hmm....15-20 reps seems to be pretty ok in strength, dont seem to be terribly weak. Just have to do that and the others, and see if got improvement.

Yea pls update after like a week ot 2 and see if it helps.

My advice is not to rush it when it come to running. I was out for nearly a year(2024). Attempted to make a comeback but didn't feel good and just paused running till this year March.

Don't be disheartened that your running will be affected. In fact,I broke my 2.4,5,10 and 21km PB this year when I returned to running.

Me attempting a comeback but just didn't feel right. Run walk just to complete.

Very good video, folks over 40 ought to test and have an idea on where you stand.
The fella himself said not to view this as a pass/fail test but rather know where you stand and a good ballpark to shoot for.

Dont have to do all as some of these exercises (esp the strength ones) might be viewed as dangerous and they potentially can be if you are just a beginner and never progressively overload or even started to lift yet), but i think you'd need at least 1 exercise from each category.

Heck even a beginner runner @ age 50 attempting a 5:00 pace run for 1.6k could be dangerous and could hit his/her limit even at just 800m.....it could be an impossible target or it could be just zone 2 depending on how you look at it and your current fitness stage. It is not a black and white thing.
Similarly, some of these like push ups might seem a bit unrealistic, but it is not wildly impossible to shoot for with just 2 years of training.

Summarise for you guys :

All standards are for @ age 50 unless otherwise stated
1 rep max calculator from other rep ranges (1RM might be a bit dangerous and some of you might not wanna do it, i know i dont)
https://strengthlevel.com/one-rep-max-calculator

Or if you dont like the immense axial loading on the spine for squats/deadlifts, you can try to estimate via 1 leg version, which would half the axial loading on the spine by half.

Strength
(Back) Squat : 1.4 x Bodyweight 1 Rep Max
Deadlift : 1.65 x BW 1RM
Bench Press : 0.9 x BW 1RM
Or one slight variation i can recommend is the overhead push bar (in the middle of the pic below). I think min 5 reps for each left or right hand with the heaviest log for age 50 is a good minimum standard.
25aa1b_234189033aba4a78a85e57d25d2ed84b~mv2.jpg

Muscular Endurance
Deadhang = 60 seconds
Push ups = 50 reps @ age 50, or 45 reps @ age 60
Wall Sit = 2 mins, over age 60 = 90 seconds

Power
Farmer's carry @ age 40, 1 x BW spread over left and right hands
Standing Broad Jump = jump your own height

Cardiovascular fitness
1 MILE RUN (1,609 metres)
8 mins @ age 40 or 4:58 min/km pace. 8:30 @ age 50 or 5:17 pace or , 9 mins @ age 60 or 5:36
Note : Or i'd roughly guesstimate 2.4k timing to be 12:40 mins / 5:17 pace for age 40.

Balance / Proprioception
Single Leg stand (no hopping or what), 1 foot just few inches above ground, arms crossed in front of chest, eyes closed.
Age 40 min 25 seconds, Age 50 min 20 seconds, Age 60 min 15 seconds
This tests proprioception if your eyes are closed (muscles/tendons/ligaments + brain processing and trying to "feel" where they are in 3D axis in space). Alternatively, open your eyes if you wanna test balance, 1 min is a decent target to shoot for, the proprioception test might be a bit too difficult.

@WussRedXLi mentioned. Something interesting for those running the SCSM. This gets into the numbers of elite are using. 120g per hour. I don't think we need that much coz we are burning a lot less calories for one hour for the same intensity and usually our intensity is lesser too coz we takes longer for the race.

I still don't have a strategy yet, but at least can base on per hour as described by this video. Currently I just bring two gel of 36g carb (SIS) if the run is more than 1.5hour, but my main purpose was to mitigate catabolic effect of long runs. Maybe should increase my gel intake and see if there any performance increment or less fatigue.

Korea or Japan marathon has no issue for carb fueling, money spent is worth it..
