I remembered it was mentioned in the forum that its possible to buy the pass using YEN in Singapore, but I forgot the place. Anyone knows? Reason being its cheaper to pay directly in yen. If one pays using SGD, the exchange rate is determined by their system, which is usually much higher than current exchange rate.

JTB or you can use Nippon Travel Agency

JTB uses current rate (most likely last closing)

NTA use a weekly rate which they set themselves

Pick either. They dun accept YEN directly. I would look at the closing rate and see if I want that rate or not and hit JTB

Their rate still can't beat buying directly using YEN.

Is it cheaper to get the JR pass from a travel agent in Singapore like Prime/JTB or one from the online like JR Pass, 'Japan rail pass : Book your Japan Rail Pass' which offer S$346 for the pass + S$16 for fedex.

don't think is cheaper buying online since u already incur delivery charges. Best is get YEN if u know where got good money exchange rates and buy direct using YEN.

It used to be Followmejapan but seems like these two names lead to the same location although different telephone number :s13:

Thanks for the reply.

One more question: Do they require passport and/or proof of entry to JP(air tickets) when purchasing the pass?

Was quoted from prime/follow me japan 28300 Yen for a 7 day JR pass which is about S$354.

However if order from http://www.japan-rail-pass.com/book-jrp/cart for at least 2 tickets it is S$342 and free delivery FEDEX charges.

It looks like online is cheaper than from prime or am i missing out something here?

Anybody order from JR Pass, Japan rail pass : Book your Japan Rail Pass before? reliable?

Saw the site before while searching on Google but think you'll probably be the first to try that site, try it out and let us know?
Alternatively, see if Yen drops further after this coming Friday's BOJ meeting.

Well u may have to factor in credit card exchange rates which is usally much higher than money changer rates and some local credit cards
if charge in foreign currencies will have small fees included so theres many factors which may jack up your charges and in the end u may not be saving alot or at all. What if u need to do refund of the unused JR Pass exchange order if something unforseen happen and u cannot go Japan within next 3 months? At lease Prime allows u to do refund (with some small charges). Just my KS 2 cents :D:D

Sorry to hijack the thread, but is it always worth it to purchase the JR pass if you are travelling out of Tokyo to Hakone/Osaka? Where are the more notable places that are not covered by the JR pass?
