Kaplan or Uni SIM? HELPPPPPPP

i never heard of unisim dip...sim dip only.
for those who are already on sim dip, isn't it cheaper to just continue on the GE route ?

since 2006, unisim only accept local dip other forms of dip are considered as private dip.

I called SIM to ask, they said the diploma awarded by them can enter unisim too, but must have certain standard of results (they specificed but I forgot exact). However, diploma from other private schs eg. Kaplan is not accepted.

Not say cheaper or what, just want to know that since UniSim is considered local (private) uni on moe website, then technically anything it accepts should be accepted at other uni as well? I do know that overseas uni like La Trobe (australia) did say it's accepted before, but I'm not considering overseas since no money T.T

Why not call all the local unis and ask? Its up to them whether they accept your diploma or not. Although their admission requirement on their websites state that only local diplomas from the 5 polys.

Actually, I dont think your diploma is actually from Unisim. Though I might be wrong. There aren't any diploma courses listed under Unisim's website. But there are diploma courses under SIMGE under SIMGE's website.

It clearly states that the diploma is awarded by SIMGE. Not Unisim. And if that is the case, then you are not considered a local diploma holder any longer, since you'd be under SIMGE.

Actually, its because Unisim itself is private, they have a greater sense of autonomy to accept students from different schools. And although Unisim and SIMGE are seperate entities, they are still under the same umbrella per se. So Unisim not accepting SIMGE diploma grads would be shooting themselves in the foot. In any case, if you can prove to the other local unis that you are just as good as the other poly grads, then I dont see why they would not be able to accept you. If your grades are good, and the number of modules you take and the difficulty of said modules are similar to local polytechnics, then the local universities wont have a problem in accepting youl.

They didn't specifically state that you can't use their diploma programs to enter; when I asked them, they did state that they consider SIM diploma as an equivalent to a polytechnic diploma, as stated over here SIM University , under "An equivalent of any of the above, together with SAT1 scores. "

Anyway, thanks for the reply guys, I will call up the other local uni tomorrow and hope for at least an interview.

What I meant is the local universities such as NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD and SIT. Even if you apply, you have to wait until next year. From what I know, the universities still prefer local diploma holders. I may be wrong though.

I'm sure they still do. SIM doesn't have a good name after all; I entered the course knowing that. It's only this year that I noticed that UniSim is recognised as a local uni, so I thought it might be possible to try for other local universities too, since my grades are all A/A+.

Even if Unisim recognises it, doesnt mean other local universities will. When i went for Unisim interview, most of them are with A lvls and local diploma. Never see anyone with SIM diploma though.

one of my course advisory board is a fund manager
plus he is one of the independent directors under soilbuild.

got another lecturer with his own accounting firm.

got experience in higher management, doesn't mean know how to teach.
besides unisim is moving towards those interactive learning style such as classroom discussion which i feel doesn't really suit the learning requirement of part time students at least.
the more passionate lecturers will stick to the more conventional ways of teaching.

Hi Simon84, very well-said! I share the same sentiment as you! Btw, I'm also a part-time unisim student, currently in my 2nd yr (1st sem...still long way to go~~).
Seriously, i oso felt that the interactive learning style aka e-learning realli dun suit part-time student. We alrdy squeeze every drop of our time to attend classes and research for GBA and ECA, on top of that, they still want us to study the textbooks n notes on our own b4 class....which i tink its realli too hectic and demanding for people like us work full time (occassionally OT required)...bt bcuz i nd the degree cert which i hope will beneficial to me in future...so nw got to bite the bullet n move on....

And Yes, some lecturers they have very bombastic industry background, reputations and title but tat doesnt mean they know how to teach. They simply just dun noe hw to transpire the knowledge to the students and unable to explain concepts well in class. I would prefer lecturers that care to explain and know hw to teach, bothers to run through the slides in the classrooms.

Of cuz for full-time students, they have all their time dedicated to study, they maybe are those groups who are more suitable for e-learning i would say. For part time student, i'm not supportive and positive about this e-learning method. But no choice..got to live wif it since unisim is very into such thing.

To those that I have send my details, please ask for the referral form and submit when you sign up. I was informed by my consultant that the best is to fill up the referral form together during signing up as it cannot be done anymore once you start class or a week before. Also, do that note when choosing a referral. I am not sure how it goes for those dropping out or graduation soon. Thank you for your help.

Friend, UNISIM/SIM is still not considered a mainstream local university.

It is not reflected in MOE'S website.

In their posters the 'local university' word they are using just means they are established in the local (land) of singapore.

Unisim is still private.
