Mizno Hotel really looks great but the info on the website looks limited even in the Japanese version. I won't be driving but I have two lazy kids who may not cooperate if a lot of walking is required. Hopefully there is shuttle to ferry all the way to the doorsteps.

They have shuttle service to and from the station. If you need to leave early, just let them know. Best about Mizno is the onsen is not crowded

Just a warning never to bring strollers to Kawaguchiko. The bus that goes around the lake is usually very crowded and you can only enter and exit from the same front door!

I was thinking of taking a bus from shinjuku to fuji 5th station direct.

Which website allows you to book a round trip to/fro fuji 5th station to kawaguchio station?

i prefer public transport too. but some places are just not easily accessible by public transport, or not accessible at all, so have to drive

At Lake Aishi, we hope 3-4 restaurants before we settle down. 1st restaurant had a minimart at lvl1 but lvl2 restaurant was fully booked for tour group. 2nd restaurant also full and waiting time abt 1hr. Hopped to 3rd restaurant and settle down for dinner.

Distance between the restaurants were quite far and we have to drive - stop and drive until finally get to eat...I still prefer to drive. Negative point is - Highway is bloody exp! :D

Yes, a car would be the best way to explore Hakone and Kawaguchiko area. Did you rent a car from Tokyo and drive all the way there? Any problems with the traffic and road signs?

For Konansou, lake view is better imo as the Fuji view is partially blocked. For the best Fuji view, you can choose Ubuya and the other stretch of ryokans in that area. Konansou's public bath also faces Fuji fyi and it is mostly empty.

Ubuya has the best views but read somewhere that their onsen is not hot spring water. I suppose it is treated with some sort of minerals still?

I am taking this :-

I had read up about this train before. Does it go around mt Fuji? Is this a round trip train or 1 way only? April can see cherry blossom in Mt Fuji? :)

It doesn’t really go around Mt. Fuji. But it’ll stop at FujiQ and Kawaguchiko station and that you’ll be able to see it in the train journey and at the station if the weather was good. Mid to late April for sakura.

Yes, the open-air private baths within the rooms are not hotspring onsen water.
If you want to soak in onsen water, have to go to their public bath onsen (fuji melted snow).
