From this review, it seems that the bass in this KEF X300A is not rich enough on its own and warrants adding a sub to this 2.0 speakers which means it really should be designed together with a sub as a 2.1 offering. :s22:

A 5 1/4" cone will not please a bass head. It's about refinement rather than bass volume. There are cheaper options in the 2.1 thread for those who are keen on more bass output.

Not referring to the base volume, it's about the quality of the bass not rich enough and may need the sub for the extra boost.:s8:

Can you explain what that means?

Are you talking about bass extension (lowest extension with - 3db), or slam in SPL?

Bass boost is not something an audiophile wants in his system. A true to source sound is more desired.

You may want to have a look at some of the terms typically used to describe bass. Cheers.

No need to play with the words used, anyone who wants to consider purchase this set of $1,150 desktop speakers should audition it first and listen to its sound, noting especially the quality of its bass. :vijayadmin:

Yes indeed, listen to see if the sound is suitable.

There are plenty of choices for those who like their bass deep, and want a high Q factor, even if it's not natural.

This speaker is not for bass heads.
