From this review, it seems that the bass in this KEF X300A is not rich enough on its own and warrants adding a sub to this 2.0 speakers which means it really should be designed together with a sub as a 2.1 offering.
A 5 1/4" cone will not please a bass head. It's about refinement rather than bass volume. There are cheaper options in the 2.1 thread for those who are keen on more bass output.
No need to play with the words used, anyone who wants to consider purchase this set of $1,150 desktop speakers should audition it first and listen to its sound, noting especially the quality of its bass.
Is GP Acoustics the only place to demo KEF speakers. Have read very good reviews about the R300 5.1 system (KEF R300 System) and was hoping to check it out.
