Knocking sound from NAS

I have purchased the Asustor AS3204T few days back, only got to setup it today.

Only have one Toshiba 4TB HDD inside out of the 4 available slot. While the HDD is "spinning", there's some vibration/sound which then causes some noise coming out from the NAS. As this is my 1st NAS, I'm not sure if this is a normal behavior.

So is it normal to have like "knocking/cracking" sound every few seconds?

Sorry if I can't explain exactly what it is. I'm trying hard.

Ok, after a little more testing, pretty sure that it's due to the HDD noise.

here's the audio that I managed to get. you can listen to yourself. on your speaker a little bit louder to hear clearer.

btw, I took the audio from outside the NAS (casing intact).

Alright, some more update. I opened up the casing, changed the HDD slot, and tighten the screw. Here's the HDD noise.

Need to on a little more loud to hear it. I would think this should be normal as HDD is spinning?

And another thing that I noticed is that if I placed the casing this way

It makes more noise with the casing.

but if this way, then not much noise.

Have u tried it on your desktop as well? See if there is any similar sound as well and maybe u can swap in your HDD yo the nas and see if there is any similar sound as well?

Already setup in Nas Liao can't plug in and use on my PC right? I can try another hdd though.

Video probably won't show anything. The vibration isn't that extreme until can see. But you can hear the sound.

Can try.

What I did try was taking off the case and heard the hdd spinning sound but the vibration is much lesser.

I think you have a very low threshold for noise. perhaps best solution is to move the NAS further away from your usual position.

it seems to me the hdd orientations also affects the spindle disk head movement that create the sound? (but still its damn weird.)

It's already away from me. A couple of meters away. Just wondering if it's a issue cause I don't hear such "loud" spinning sound from my hdd inside my casing which one right beside me.

And I thought it was a issue. If this is normal then I'll let it be.

Although the position does affect the sound. It's much better now that I have tighten the screw and place it on the 2nd hdd slot inside the Nas.
