A noob qn - does the Kurzweil KS-40A needs a separate soundcard to work or will work fine with the normal 'green' port from the motherboard? And when buying the speaker, do I need to buy anything xtra in order to connect to the pc?
Thanks alot in adv!!:s12:

Increase output

Hi all, just bought this kurzweil from city audio. Impressed with the clarity but it does not very loud. Can I add any amplifier to increase the volume output when connect to my iPhone. Was thinking of getting this lepai amp if needed.

IMO Kurzweil KS-40A belongs at the bottom end of "studio monitors" heck i might not even consider them as a studio monitor given their absolute lack of clarity and definition.

You'll need a proper pre-amp or receiver to drive the speakers well, portable amps ain't gonna cut it.

I agree with you but considering my last speaker which I bought just few months back, kurzweil is a improvement. For 100 bucks, wasn't really expect too much. But it's providing what I wanted, more clarity for my beginner level.

As much as I desire to get a proper setup, space will always be an issue until I get my new place few yrs fown the road.

Hopefully I will stay satisfied until then. And thanks for your advice on amp or receiver. Might try that if I can find the space.

Looking to upgrade my computer speakers. Currently using the Creative S2.
Would the Kurzweil KS-40A be a good upgrade?
Afraid of its lack of bass for movies.

Use for light gaming, movies and music.
Looking for something thats not very bassy, more geared towards clarity.

I just bought one last Thursday. Still haven't tried it for movies and game. Will inform you if it's suitable. It's good for music thou, doesn't over shadow songs with bass like my previous speaker.

Do keep my updated thanks.
Deciding between the Kurzweil KS-40A and Audioengine 2.
If Kurzweil works fine with movies then i rather not spend the extra $250 for a audioengine 2 though im quite sure the A2 will sound better.

Just looking for something that will be better than my current creative S2 with greater clarity and not boomy bass.

The shop at Peace Centre allows testing for the Kurzweil KS-40A right?

Perhaps can drop by and ask to audition them, the malay sales person there was kinda helpful and friendly when i dropped by earlier this year.

When you are done with it, you could also drop by Parklane to try the other bookshelves over there at the basement shop, Sinamex.

If you are upgrading from a sub 50-80 bucks 2.0 or 2.1 to Kurzweil, it's still a decent upgrade for sure. However do note that there is not much warmth in it and personally i felt that it came out quite flat and alittle pitchy. Alas, sound is subjective, just personal views.

Sinamex has some demo units of the M-Audio and some other brands, you could try listening to them there but when you do so....you'd probably forgo with Kurzweil.

The sound coming is fine for a small room. And when you test it there, they amp it out so you dun really know the real max volume until you get home. If can up budget, best to get a better rather than keep on buying more speakers. Had a fren over to sample 3 sets of speakers i currently have. And now thinking bout getting a receiver. To think this all started with me getting gt5 and ps3.

Kurzweil KS-40A lacks any semblance of bass....

Decided to let go of my kurzweil, can't find a place for it in my room as I'm not using a desktop.

Final Feedback of this speaker, it's good for what it cost. If you are used to 400-500 dollars audio system, of course you will not like it. But for beginners, it's excellent. The audio output level is more suited for desktop type placing because of it's volume limit.

Used it for gt5 and found it good. If you like thumping bass, this might not be suited. I listen to old school rock and metal songs, the drum beats and guitar clarity is excellent.

Played ironman movie thru this speaker and it performed well, thumping type bass speakers might be better for movies and games but does not mean kurzweil can't be used.

Final note, if you budget is higher than 150, try to aim higher. Eventually your hands will get itchy. But if you never concentrated on clarity and always used 50-80 bucks speakers, try this, they will suprise you.

Sound taste is subjective, I found hk sound sticks ordinary when ppl are praising it's quality. Always test before buying if possible. Cheers

Just bought one unit. Hooked up and tested.

The speaker has not burned in yet. Sounds hollow, but seems to sound better. :D

Kurzweil probably introduce this speaker as a complement to their range of digital pianos and keyboards for sound output. It is fine for normal usage and decent size to move around. Who will need strong bass from digital pianos? I don't think you can compare it with higher end monitors because the targeted end users are different.

Hi guys!

Greetings from the other side of the world (Croatia)

I am getting these 2 for my small room computer setup and I was wondering if you could tell me what comes in the box except speakers and the power cable?

Just so I know what to go and buy on my way of picking up these two tomorrow!

Thanks in advance ;)
