Unfortunately not relevant anymore. Took at look, early Jan 2024 price for 5 nights already at $800. Then all the way till May 2024 the nightly price ranges from $243-406.

The price only applicable if you book very early, the $71 is for Jul 2023, nobody probably looking for hotel if they are flying this week.
looking towards end of the year. Goes up to $150 or more.

Stayed at RC Hotel Kyoto, while it's not in the most convenient location, i really love the location.
it's in the middle of ninenzaka, very near to Kiyomizudera.
Gion district is ard 15 minutes on foot.

It's also unique because it used to be a rental flat, and the converted the rooms into hotel.
we got a room facing Yasaka Pagoda when we stayed there, and you can also access the roof top with Yasaka Pagoda view.

Chapter Hotel location is ok, a bit further north than expected but still close enough to town center.
They have their own indoor onsen which is nice.

Suiran hotel in Arashiyama has a great location.
Decent service but food is not that great.
Price is too high though

They have a really good location cafe which overlooks the river, worth going.
Dont have to stay in the hotel to go to the cafe.

Nice to walk around Arashiyama in the night/morning before the hordes of tourists arrive

Roku Kyoto is far from the city center and near the golden Kinkaku temple.
Location is bad for tourists but really really nice for a getaway resort

Amazing resort hotel with a heated outdoor 25m onsen pool.
The hotel premises are top notch as well as service.
Surrounded by forests too.
Excellent

Onsite food is just ok, nothing amazing.

Good for a getaway resort stay.

We stayed at Royal Park Shijo 1-2 weeks back, it's a new hotel and very clean (chose new/newish hotels bec of bedbug scare) - it's close to the Shijo subway and has separate wc and large bathroom, staff were polite and kind. Shijo is like the epicentre of touristy locations in Kyoto but not too expensive as you will get approaching Gion/Pontocho.

2 weeks back I stayed 3 nights at Sotetsu Fresa Inn Kyoto-Hachijoguchi, then 4 nights at Marikoji Machiya.

Arranged my itinerary so that those days when I needed to take trains out of Kyoto, I was staying at Sotetsu Fresa Inn, and then when I'm just exploring Kyoto, I'd be staying at the machiya.

The machiya was expensive for just 2 pax, but it's a really nice experience. The tsuboniwa garden was a joy to gaze at every morning and evening while sipping tea/coffee. It looked to be quite inaccessible on the map but we had no issues walking to/fro the 3 subway stations (Shijo, Karasuma and Kyoto-Kawaramachi). Walkable to Pontocho, to Nishiki Market, heck we even walked from machiya to Kiyomizudera šŸ˜… Highly recommend Machiya Inns if you have the budget to spare.

Sotetsu Fresa Inn Kyoto-Hachijoguchi is just a regular business hotel (I'm a member of the chain, and I got cashback - in cash - when I checked out), but its rather new, with Lawson just around the corner. Easy to get to from the station too. Single rooms just perfect for solo travellers. Great location if you wanna stay around Kyoto station area but didn't want to spend too much. I find their prices very reasonable if you book early.
