My Asus Zenbook UX330 carried me through my 3 years of Uni. 1.2kg with 10 hour battery life. Bought for slightly less than 1.5k.

Able to do programming stuff with no issue.

Now seems like newer model have 12 hour battery life.

Want do you want?

Want chio and light, go for any of the consumer laptops. Plenty to choose from. LG Gram, Huawei Matebook, Acer Swift, HP Envy, Dell XPS, Asus Zenbook etc. All these can buy and throw after 2-3 years.

Want more robust laptop, go for business class laptops.

I'm pretty sure many users here are well-versed with the Zenbooks, Spectres, Swifts etc. to comment on them. I myself am biased towards business grade laptops so I'd only personally recommend those.

Lenovo Thinkpad:
X1 Carbon 6th Gen
T480S
T490S/T495S
T490/T495
X390/X395

Dell Latitude:
7400
7490
7300

HP Elitebook:
840 G6

if laptop can last 3 years. more than enough. worthwhile.

most tend to fail as soon as warranty over especially with gaming laptop external GPU due to heat

Most school courses are 3-4 years. Hence why I suggest business laptops as they cover 3 years onsite as standard while consumer laptops cover only 1 or 2 years as standard.

The better build quality on business laptops also tend to hold up better after years of usage. Stuff like loose hinges and run-down keyboards are less common.

And because HP/Lenovo/Dell have to support thousands of the same business laptop for 5 years, one typically gets quicker support when a part does fail.

Psychology part time at suss

For psychology, pretty much every new/modern laptop in the market today can do the job. Get any brand you like but with 1 condition, get one with a SSD inside. If the specs state it runs on a HDD, avoid it.

Student Laptop

If your budget exceeds 2k, you could go for an X1 Yoga or X1 Carbon. If not, I'll recommend the Dell XPS 15. I know friends that have used these laptops for 4 years without any issues.

If you buy dell, get extended warranty. Those made 2018 and later have motherboard issues

If you have not done your purchase yet, please check with the school whether they have any tied-up offer. Some schools will even put the necessary software for you.
