Missing ram

Hi guys!
My laptop (Asus N55SL) has been fixed by Asus' service centre and my laptop has been factory restored. However, I notice a slight lag in the performance of my laptop (eg. occasional system lag when doing simple chores like playing songs, transferring files from one folder to another in the laptop, lag when opening files), something that I've not experienced before. Even right clicking on desktop lags.. Opening control panel/ computer will take awhile too..

To add on, when i 'dxdiag', I found 4gb of ram missing, down from my original 8gb ram. May I know where the other 4gb of ram has gone to? System properties say that I have only 4gb ram installed...

REPAIR SOLUTION 1:
YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR DATA
If you know what you're doing, reinstall everything from start after formatting/wiping the disk (on another computer, might require hard disk connector/casing). Otherwise you can bring to a repair shop.
REPAIR SOLUTION 2:
Check for component failure after you reinstalled. If there are no component failures, you can use as usual. If there are, you can try to replace (sometimes might be hard disk, but if it's your motherboard DON'T bother replacing because it's as good as buying a new pc.)

'bootmgr' is missing problem is not hardware. Check you restore method. There may be more then one option.

Check with Asus if they have taken out your RAM or might have put it back incorrectly. If one of the RAM is loose, the mobo can't detect it and maybe that is why you lag. Other than that, you can try removing some crapware that you don't need, like bluetooth and stuff (like clear.fi for Acer)

For the RAM issue, check if your OS is 32 bit. 32bit OS can only support up to 4 GB RAM usually.

Hmm factory install shouldn't have much lag.. Maybe some drivers not installed ?

My OS is 64 bit.
Hmm, I have installed and updated the necessary drivers through windows updates and through Asus' official website for driver.

I cleared most if not all the bloatwares for my Asus laptops already.
Is there any other methods other than checking with Asus? It might take a bit of a hassle to go through all the SOP and whatnots and they may end up denying removing my ram..

For the RAM, I think you can try unscrewing the bottom casing and check if the ram sticks are present.

I've an old Asus laptop, there's a small area with a small marking 'ddr' . It should be that one. The markings could differ between models though.

To further double-check, download CPU-Z and go to the SPD tab. It will list down all available RAM in your computer.

The other methods which I could think of to speed up a laptop are defragmenting ( if you're using HDD ) and unchecking services which are not needed.

Btw, does your task manager have any process which uses alot of processing power ?

The service centre pocket your additional 4G ram !

32 bit operating will show less then 4G, not 4G.

I just removed the covered and there's 2 DDR slot. However, only one is occupied..?!
If this is the ram, then as shown in the picture, I have 2 available slot but only one slot is occupied.



Diagnostics show that I have 4gb ram available too when by rights I should have 8gb.

IDK why after sending it for servicing, the performance for my laptop kinda slow down.

Opening a new explorer/ folder takes 2-3 second whereas previously double clicking it will result in instant open.
Right clicking in desktop takes up to as much as 6 seconds!

Hi I need help reformat my netbook Vaio,

I read online can preload Ubuntu to netbook is better, but again,
I prefer to use WinXP or Win7 basic.

Anyone can help on formatting my netbook?
how do I preload those formats (Ubuntu?) on a Usb flash drive,
so I can format my netbook or PCs at ease?
everytime pay to get it done, not worth it leh.

You can always choose to retain XP or W7 and install any of the Ubuntu distro on existing Windows partition using wubi. Just need to download the ISO file you like and use wubi to install, after which you end up with dual-boot OS at boot up. For netbook, choose Lubuntu instead.

Just uninstall them is fine.
