Can check the Lenovo Ideapad 5 running ryzen 4000

Not bad for 848. Get really good performance for its price.

If your kids don't drop it or break it, it can last for at least years without needing to upgrade.

Would like to seek recommendations for a laptop that will be used by primary school children.

Budget is definitely below <$1000.
Trying to get a value for money product that can last for some time.
and at same time not so heart pain if it is damaged by water spill or drop, since it is to be used by kids.

no gaming.
the usual MS words, browser, and youtube activities.

X230, T430, or for newer but still highly capable, T460.

Spares are readily available, parts are cheap.
Slap in an SSD and it will fly.

you can consider a google chromebook. it uses android and afaik, office suite is free ^.^

Lenovo Thinkpad E495, $953 with AMD Ryzen 5 3500U Processor, 8GB Ram, 512MB M.2 storage and 3 years on site warranty is the best choice. Get it from Lenovo website and deselect all add on except 3 years on site warranty.

The office suite suite via playstore iirc requires an Office 365 connection.
Any chromebook gurus can verify? - I sold mine off at the start of the year!

Anw, for pri, ryzen3 or celeron with >4GRam is sufficent. No prawn farm, HDD Sdd storage is not a concern.

The subsidised device is a Chromebook. Hence the $200.

i wonder if the on site warranty is going to be useful...thats another $33 for something not necessary.

On-site is valuable. The cost of a single trip to site + material is easily $33.
HP, lenovo got some low cost (s$300+) notebook models, how come they don bring in to Sg?

If you get a lemon... otherwise I don't think so... more valuable to get longer warranty... but even then there will be exclusions... I am not too bothered with warranty since most things can be repaired outside of the laptop company...

If I would think about getting a laptop for my education purposes, I think that it would be really cool if it could handle with games as well. Of course, it all depends on financial state of each person. Haha. Notice the thread is for getting a laptop for his kids. If I am going to get a laptop for my kids, gaming is the last priority.

Besides gaming can be in so many things. You can play solitaire or play LOL. One you don't need a GPU, the other you do
