Lasik eye Surgery

Hi, been a silent reader for a while.
Does anyone know if lasik/prk will develops side effects after 20 years or so? Or does it means once you pass the recovery period, there won’t no long be an issue?

Less tissue is removed with TransPRK for sure. My cornea is about 440 microns after my surgery (started with 580). Its been more than 3 months and its one of the best decisions i've made in my life that's for sure especially for my active lifestyle.

Hi there, I actually have similar degree as you do with no/very mild astigmatism. So wondering if a 10days off from work would be sufficient for recovery? I’m an office worker which requires me to stare at the screen every working and OT on some days. And for eye assessment and surgery day, what are the waiting period? I realzied from the thread that there are few clinics which did the assessment and surgery on the same day.

I just went down today to do the $5 screening + Dr consultation for Lasik eligibility, which amounted to $80 for the total cost. The $5 test alone would not be accurate enough, since the dilation of the eyes is done before the Dr consultation - so yes it seems like its mandatory before the doctor will even want to perform any surgery on your eye. Hope it helps.

Already have my Lasik(wave-front) scheduled for next Fri.

Sorry for the late update. All went well as planned!

Assessment concluded that I was suitable for Lasik, hence, had the surgery done about a week ago. Dr Lim had also added for me the cross-linking process as it was deemed to be safer for my Cornea in the long run. After the surgery, my vision was rather hazy/blurry and I was told not to wash my face/hair for the next 24 hours. A couple of eyedrops were also prescribed, to be used at regular intervals. I was also given eye shields to be worn during my first night of sleep. Thankfully, I did not experience any halos at night and my vision was a lot clearer on the following day.

During my first follow-up review(1 day after surgery), there was a slight post surgery issue with my left eye observed - eyelashes growing inwards which had caused my recovering flap to be wrinkled/creased. But Dr Lim was quick and decisive to perform a flap lift to help remediate the issue within the same day. Subsequently, she had placed a lens on my left eye (to be removed during my second follow-up review (approx. 1 week later), which was just earlier today. My vision is currently almost 20/20 perfect, but Dr Lim had advised that it may take a few months for it to stabilize, which is perfectly normal. My last follow-up is about 6 weeks from now.

Overall experience would say its a 5/5. It might have been slightly pricier (my opinion) than other clinics, but again it was well worth paying for a doctor you can trust.

Ok got it! Anyone did ICL and needed an injection insTead of topical eyedrop anaesthesia? It was rather discomforting/ bit painful for me during measurement so they said I probably need injection

Yes me! Before surgery, I was given injection and the injections were quite painful. Here I was wondering why I'm seeing so many testimonies saying ICL was quick and painless.

depends on the clinic. i would recommend at least 2 weeks off if possible.

LASIK and SMILE recovery is much quicker than PRK. In the US, patient have 'lunchtime LASIK' and go back to work after few hours. Locally up to 3 days MC is usu given for LASIK but if done on friday / saturday, no need time off work at all. PRK n LASEK takes 1-2 weeks to heal depending on how high degree is. I wanted to share a short experience. Wanted to choose between Lasik / ICL. Went to Dr Natasha Clinic at Novena for the $5 eye check + doctor consult about $60+ in total per pax. Service was good and had Dr Natasha check.

Did all the Eye check and after wanting to go for ICL, did the final eye assessment and was told : Eye gap too narrow for ICL. Cornea rather thin for Lasik and PRK.

So. TL DR Just go do all the eye assessment and checkup.
You never know what option is available
