Kamsahamnida to Unni or is this Oppa? definitely can't use the terms Hyung/Dongsaeng/Noona:s13:

btw, how's the class size over at SKS? students will be awarded a certificate upon completion of each level?

Haha... Not bad. Yeah. Can address me as Oppa or sonbae (Senior).

Class size for elementary class is more than 20. But as you advance , the class will get smaller. When I was in advanced class there was only 9 people. Yes, if you pass the exam and acheive at least 75% attendance you will receive a certificate.

Annyeonghaseyo Sonbae! haha i learnt all that from English subtitles on Korean shows. i also learnt the sentence "Thank you for the food, i'll eat well" from WGM. Koreans are always very polite, they will say that sentence before having their meals.

It's interesting to know that by taking out the "Yo" from a sentence, it becomes an informal way to end a sentence and is equivalent to speaking in Banmal.

Gomawoyo for the info! will there be a new intake every semester for newcomers to join?

안녕하세요.

진짜 대단하시네요. :)s13:)

Haha... Wow... You even know what is banmal. Korean is full of interesting grammars and expressions. For elementary class , you will learn the formal way of speaking/writing. seumnida and hamnida. So Gamsa-hamnida , jwesong-hamnida, wa-seumnida etc. Then you will learn to change it to yo form like Gomawo-yo, mianhe-yo, wa-yo etc.

Hope I never confuse you. But there are much much more to learn. There is a new intake for every semester. I believe the next semester is in April. You will enjoy your experience in SKS.
Haha... Yup...

wah force me to read Hangul haha... sorry i too lousy le couldn't catch the second sentence, could you decipher it for me? lol

does the formal way of speaking involve a specific type of accent for people who resides in different cities? cos the MCs always say Yonghwa speaks with his Busan accent but i don't hear any difference except his voice is deeper haha.

daedanhi kamsahamnida!!! april intake but i have exams hurdle the following month. 왜!

There is free shuttle bus service from clementi and newton station at 6.30pm. Yeah, if you dun drive or is unable to catch the shuttle bus, SKS is very inconvenient for you. ( Dun even think of walking in from the nearest bus stop. It is very far.)

oh I am saying "You are really awesome !" :s13:

Oh... The standard korean we are learning / hearing on TV is the seoul dialect. Well, it is difficult to differentiate a dialect if you are not a korean. Because the difference lies in the tones. It is unlike the Chinese dialects where Cantonese is so different from Hokkien or Mandarin.

Haha... I was taught by teachers whose hometown were from Busan and GwangJu but they never spoke their dialect. (Come on, we dun even understand the standard korean... Haha...)

lol you flatter me too much. i'm not even a beginner in Korean Language, just someone who has a keen interest in it:)

haha so cool...imagine if Singapore has dialects according to the towns... lol i would be speaking with a "seaside and mangrove swamp" accent:s13:

really thanks a lot, i learnt much more from you:) am i right to say that for "hyung-nim" and "yonghwa-ssi", the "nim" and "ssi" are added as a mark of respect? like to make it into a more formal greeting?

only one shuttle bus at the stipulated 6.30pm? what if we miss the bus? aigoo...

Looks like you are very very interested in korean language. Haha...

Ok. ssi 씨 is an universal honorific used for people of equal status. So basically you always address people with a ssi unless you have to address with other honorifics. Your friends, your classmates and anybody who has equal standing. (ssi is the safest way to address people if you are unsure)

For nim 님, it is used to address people of higher status .
Like Teacher, seonsaeng-nim
Professor, kyusu-nim
Father, abo-nim
Grandmother, hal-mo-nim

Oh I studied in SKS for 2 years . I will try not to miss the bus but sometimes when I do, I will skip the lesson. (Too expensive to take a taxi to SKS :look: Lol)
Yup so if you definitely can't catch the shuttle bus, I would not recommend you to study in SKS.

Anyway I also had exam periods like you so I did miss lessons for 1 or 2 weeks. The teachers there are quite nice so they won't be angry if you can't make it.

Shuttle bus is 2 way.

Haha... Haengbok ha-se-yo .

Yup it is hard.... But sch exam is more important so have to sacrifice. Dun worry so much, elementary class is not that difficult. You can pretty much self learn after learning hangeul...
Missing lessons are quite common as most ppl are working or studying full time. Exams, O.T etc....

I also studied in SKS for 2 years plus. I intending to take replacement test at NUS Ext or looking for korean tutor or self study. I won't recommend studied in SKS because u need to pass exam before going to next level. It too stressful and lots of homework to do, also need to catch shuttle bus by 6.30pm.
somehow i have exam stress.
Is it true that topik valid for 2 year? after 2 year u need to retake again? Is topik important? if people failed topik won't feel embarrassing?
