I've spoken with NUS Extension staff and they have closed down their Korean courses. Seems like the other language courses will follow.

It's a bit strange since they were so popular, but then I guess NUS doesn't need to be 100% profit driven.

Some new names on the block are Sejong and Lingo.

You can find an overview of Korean courses, complete with reviews on yago.sg

So far the recommendations online are Ganada, Singapore Korean School and ezSam

I've not been to ezSam so I cannot comment on how they teach since they use a different book series.

But the principle lecturers were teaching Korean in NUS before and they're decent. I know since they were my lecturers in NUS.

Hello!

I'm really keen to learn korean as well so have been going this thread here and there...

Am kinda torn between SKIS, Hanok, Ganada.. EZsam looks really good but it's really expensive with the addtl $10 reg fee + textbook :O

But I read the review about SKIS from other pages and it's just so-so.. Is that really the best place to learn korean?

As for Hanok and Ganada, I'm attracted to the affordable price.. :)

I would like a focus of both writing and speaking, instead of just speaking because I realize a lot of school focus on that instead.

So could anybody advice me on this? Just want to fully utilize my money and make sure that I learn something at the end of the day!

The one thing bad about SKIS is that the class is simply huge. Estimated to be about more than >15 ppl per class, which is not conducive for learning. I had the same experience in JCSS, class was too big, teacher did not have time to focus on individual students and simply too noisy. So to me, SKIS is a no-go.

I heard Ganada is decent but a warning which I must convey: You pay peanuts, you get monkeys. Find out which school offer a better learning environment with good teachers instead of budget. Learning a third language is not a joke and a good center comes in handy.

common people learn for the sake of understanding and speaking (non academic), which is why the schools would focus more on that.

are u currently learning the language? if so, which level are you at? you can go to topik website to download the past year papers and use it in your preparation. you might also want to buy this reference book "Korean Grammar in use Beginner" from gmarket. i find it quite useful.

wouldn't mind trying, if only location is more convenient.

so far quite disappointed with NEX teaching style (or maybe it's just my that teacher). it's really just go through textbook, go through workbook, give answer, that's it. Might as well just discipline a bit and self-study. Will be finishing up one more term with her then go look for another sch.

for those still looking, there's another school i.Speak Korean Language Center. set up by some teachers from NEX also.

u start learning from scratch now? or already been learning? I found the paper on the easy side, but I do attend regular classes, and did a number of past year papers before sitting for it.

Maybe can try this book COMPLETE GUIDE TO THE TOPIK BASIC. I don't have it, but from some of the pages I've seen, it looks quite good. there are mock tests, practice questions and all explained quite clearly in english. Required vocab lists for Basic level also provided.

I don't see any content/explanation for verb conjugation or grammar pattern though, so that might be a problem.
