Intermediate is good for both 2 and 3 I think. It's not enough for 1 though. But if you really want to study for JLPT I suggest the Kanzen master grammar series because it targets the grammar that will appear in the exams.

Hello. I have bought the basic version about 2 years ago. Planning to get the intermediate version end of this month.

Btw, for intermediate version, it is suitable for which level? JLPT 3 or 2?

Thanks for your advice. I will get the Kanzen master grammar series as well for JLPT 2 & the intermediate version end of this month.

I think I will start to study for JLPT 1 4 years later as I have just started my pre-advance course. :D

Hahaha Dimitri, you're a stick in the mud :D I'm a lazy learner.

Anyways, I'm just looking at the prices of the new electronic dictionaries in Japan. My old Canon wordtank doesn't have a stylus which makes me so lazy to use it. I wish I bought from Amazon earlier. They're so cheap if you get from Amazon. Now it's probably too late to order since I'm flying back this week :(

I thought I should be able to get them for the same prices in physical stores since there is no discount indicated on Amazon but apparently not!! The online websites of physical stores are selling them for about 3000-5000 yen more!! I'll just have to check them out tomorrow. Tomorrow is the Emperor's birthday so it's a public holiday thus no school.
terrajさん、今、日本のどこ?私は安く買う場所を知っています。一番安い場所は19000円で、東京です。

dimitri_can, unfortunately I'm in 福岡市 at the moment. Things here aren't as fast paced as Tokyo. If I go to Tokyo again in the future I'll ask you for your help :)

Off-topic: In response to a certain someone earlier, I would never ever wish someone else's life to end just because I do not agree with his personality; you're one sick b*st*rd.

Hi Elfenx,
yes... You need at least JLPT 2 to decipher well with a dictionary...
Even though the teacher teaches u well, u have to do self-revision yourself.
Imagine me, having to study at least 2 hours everyday now....not ez..
u can borrow 流星の絆 from me... if u do watch that show.

For me, i am concentrating on my business japanese...

I've got a Murakami book, but not Haruki; Murakami Ryuu. It was a book on drug addicts though, very thin. I haven't got to reading it other than the 1st chapter. I think bought it for 7 bucks in Singapore 2 years ago. I've read 魔性の子 from the Juuni Kokuki series and that's an easy read. But the other books in the series are tough due to the exceptional amounts of kanji and politics. I might get to finishing it sometime later :) Mishima would probably be very hard though since it's not only literature, it's period literature. But since the books have been translated no harm reading them side to side.

I suggest learning JLPT2 grammar before you start reading any books though.

Books in Japan are really cheap. They have lots of second hand bookstores too where you can get books for like 2-300 yen. I saw some old manga series, brand new though, selling for about 2300 yen for 10 books just over the weekend. A typical Japanese 文書 size book, brand new, is about 500 yen. A 新書判size book would be about 900 yen. Usually the bigger the book the more expensive.

Hi all, dropped by kino today. crowded with people doing xmas shopping, gave me a headache yet have the warm fuzzy feeling watching books get wrapped up :)
Anw, i wonder if you guys read any serious jap fiction? Eg books by murakami, soseki, mishima? How difficult is it to read and understand the fiction in its context? My goal of learning japanese is really to read a murakami book in japanese and in its entirety, i guess that would require a really solid grasp of jap.. At my level (jlpt3) even thou i may understand the meaning of simple sentences, it still take a while to decipher the grammar and why it's used.
Terraj, are the jap fiction expensive in japan?

and wrt reference books, if one is taking lessons in school wont it be better (and cheaper) to follow the sch's text? I bought some books too, pretty nice to be able to own exp bks but is it really necessary if we assume the sch teach us well? Or it could be i'm just plain lazy to do simultaneous studying :p

Do u know if it's immediate? Cos getting a refund at the airport would be a hassle. Tax in Japan is 5%.

No point getting the "rebate". The prices are different for local and foreigner price.
At least this is the case at Akiba. "Tax free" shops price their products higher.
