(Taiwan print) second book?

Kino doesn't have it,cuz they say the book is supposedly not meant for export...lolz...

I'm not too sure which shop, but maybe you can try those 2nd hand chinese bookshops that are in bras basah complex. ^^

Cool, so what studying tips do you have for your kouhai tachi .

Doing JLPT 3 without any help sure is a feat, to me at least.
Must be a lot of self-study, and endless watching of J-drama.

If not, could it be that you lived in Japan for awhile before?

I do have help,like last 2 days before JLPT 3 for cramming materials.lolz.
Partly I head for the wrong materials,partly I didn't put in that much effort.

I wouldn't really recommended self-study because you would likely miss out on the conversation and intonation portion. Then again,it differs from person to person.

For my fellow 後輩たち,
1)Dare to ask your sensei questions,the better students in class always end up to be this group of people,i don't need to explain. It maximize the value of your money spent also .

2)Do revision regularly,don't cram,its useless. This is language. Maximize your commuting time for revision if your are really busy.

3)Watch out for your sensei's intonation and pauses during conversation and reading.

4)You can seek Dimitri's advice for books if you want to. He have a good library of books.
Personally I really like どんなときどう使う日本語表現文型 for grammar.

5)kanzan master is a good book for revision only. Not for learning new grammar points. Stop thinking it is a godly book like many out there.

6)For vocabulary and other misc stuff,i recommend visiting the MLC site. They have good resources there available for free download. Just Google for it,trust me,its worth your time.

7)TYS(Ten year series) when you are ready. Try out past years paper when you are stable enough . Cliche truth:知彼知己，百戰不殆

8)Don't study for the sake of JLPT,learn the language because you want the proficiency and you want to let it be part of you. If not,you are gonna wear yourself out eventually.

I am not very good with advise. Hope what I have said can be of use to you all.

Cuz the advancement will be to slow for me.
Doesnt make sense if i am gonna finish a huge chunk of jlpt2 stuff and still doing pre-advance.

Maybe i also give my thoughts for those who are keened or interested in JLPT2 prep.

1)Don't think anymore.If you want,join now.Cuz the work is piling up,if you delay some more you might not be able to catchup.

2)If you are unsure,i would agree you talk with kanai sensei first if you are interested in her speed.Maybe you can request for her to give you an example of how she explains grammar points in class.From there you more or less know whether you can or cannot catch.

3)For people who took JLPT 3 and are hanging.(like me,>.<)If you can catch what she is explaining then it should be ok to take the prep class.But,like what she had said and the very cliched truth,bad foundations make wobbly structures is gonna apply.If you are gonna take,please revise and fortify your JLPT 3 stuff.Cuz JLPT 2 stuff is built heavily on it.Unless you telling me you want to hang your 2kyuu also.

4)Denshi Jisho is recommended at this point of time.Sensei did her promotion work for Ikoma last lesson...lolz...too bad i got it le

5)Dedication,commitment and motivation.Dont have dont take,else waste money.really.lolz.

I am thinking the same thing about pre-advanced also.I cant justify spending on pre-advance now.
Most of the things inside are from JLPT 3,if someone is firm on his/her stuff, i think is abit extra.
I am finishing my pre-advance 1 very soon le...i now considering whether to continue on to pre-advance 2 or not.
My foundation is still not very firm,but i also dont think i need classes to built it up.
Partly because my understanding is there,i only need self revision i think.
As for the JLPT 2 stuff,i am taking prep course also,so its covering up.
Is pre-advance 2(meaning the second book) still going to be largely based on JLPT 3 stuff?
My only concern is about conversation which i am still not very good at...lolz...
Truth to be said,i am not very good...i feel that my lessons now is ok...but oddly i am feeling bored...i dont know why...lolz...

End up i think prep class which should be boring is more interesting and challenging.

Despite folks here saying pre advance is useful, i would maintain its not. But you do have to be very good to skip to advance. Good , as in ur JLPT 3 foundation must be strong...and you should do some self studies by getting a few textbooks and go thr them.

I strongly recommend

"An integrated approach to intermediate Japanese"
Akira Miora and Naomi McGioion.

This book is very good. Except for listening, this book COVERS everything including innotation...(teaches you the rythmn and how to pronounce the word).

Are you going to take JLPT 1? Is that a personal challenge or an achievement you want to accomplish? Or is it a requirement in your job? Or you intend to stay live and work in Japan?

I heard from my cousin's Japanese friends that JLPT 1 seems redundant, deemed optional or unnecessary. Maybe there's a reason for it to be there and to be taken by foreign students. What's the main motivation of taking JLPT 1 then?

JLPT 1 is not redundant. If you plan to be a teacher or translator then JLPT 1 is the minimum. Otherwise most Japanese speaking jobs require JLPT 2 only. So if you plan to take JLPT 1 without any of these objective then it would be for bragging rights. But seriously if you have JLPT 1 and no skills to show for it then you will only put yourself to shame. I know someone with JLPT 2 who is very fluent in speaking Japanese and yet he never did manage to pass JLPT 1.
