actually JLPT classes should be for ppl who already have foundation, from their normal classes like beginner, int, adv, etc. these classes focus much more on conversation, and u can learn extra stuff not in textbooks (depending on the material the teacher chooses). JLPT classes are to help u get that JLPT cert. thats why teachers have to go through the bunpo fast to cover the large amt of bunpo and vocab. without foundation, there's not much meaning to go for JLPT classes, even if u pass. well, unless u just want to get the cert.

and as for the teacher speaking fast, that is in fact a good thing. it helps u with your listening and understanding skills, coz when u listen to japanese speaking, outside the school, almost all of them speak much faster than teachers in schools. and in fact, some teachers slow down their talking speed in class, for the sake of students, which i think is not very helpful. even if you speak to japanese, most of them will slow down their speed for you

yes.. In Japan, i had to apologize, cos some of them were slowing their speed down for me...but i just told them...no need to slow down for me...if i cannot get it, i will ask again...

I would say after i came back, my hearing has improved much better and i cannot stand people that speaks slowly now... LOL

Speed...
I first came across its importance when i was in MRT,heard 2 guys talking and it took me a while to realize they were talking in Japanese.If i am not wrong,I think kids also speaks faster than what most of us does normally in class.

Their prep class is sorely structured for the sake of exams.It will improve your grammar,vocab,reading and listening.Conversation?Its another matter.
It will improve your Japanese,but its reading and listening only.
So far i think i can cope with her lessons.I am getting used to her speed.

But as i said before,to do prep-course you must commit yourself to self-study and revision.
It is expected of you and necessary.
Actually,this is the basis to do well in academic field.

Reason for the existence of pre-advance i probably can fathom why also.
This is why i said it is unnecessary for people with strong foundation and not unnecessary for all people.
I assessed this from my class.There are people who i know will need it and someone who i think not.
For me,what i really need the most is conversational training...lolz...
But i really would prefer new stuff with conversational practice.

Do you know why there's a pre-advance in the 1st place?

1. It's meant to help you guys cope with the conversation challenges of JLPT 2.
2. It's there because there are lots of stuff which belong to JLPT 3 that weren't covered, and maybe somehow u managed to learn it urself, so it's there.
3. A lot of things that you might not know, like 休みます and 休み, why is 休み a noun?

and stuff.

My suggestion is not to take Pre-advance lightly...

I dont have the book but i know about this book.
Someone did JLPT 3 takers a favor and created a site for it.

That is why i said the 2 points not inside.

That guy however didn't continue his efforts for 2kyuu and above...T.T...

Anyway,next year things gonna change.What is 3 and what is 2 will probably be redefined.

I can't help but find this thread very interesting, so I thought I might like to chip in.
Unlike most of you here (my assumption), I'm from Bunka Language Center. Recently just finished its Intermediate 4 (My school has 4 levels of Intermediate) and I'm about to sign up for the Pre-Advance lessons (My school has 3 levels of pre-advance).

I would like to echo what dimitri_can-san has said earlier about pre-advance lessons. I think school offering the same and for the same purpose, mean to cope with conversational skills.

In my school, pre-advance promotion to the next level is by teacher recommendation. I think it's pretty awesome, if the teacher doesn't find you apt enough, then you cannot proceed to the next level.

My aim is to get JPLT 2 in the end, but I haven't taken my JLPT 3 yet, but it's going to be this year.

Good luck to anyone who's taking JLPT 3 this year.

i have not gone through pre advance... but i think it is used to bridge the gap between JLPT3 and JLPT2 gap...

something like the new JLPT N3...

if u speak to japanese, most if them usually wont slow down their speed unless u portray poor proficiency of the language...

Yeah, scary isn't it. While I was in Hokkaido last year, I had a taste of native Japanese speech. Absolutely no latency. None at all. LOL

This is my first JLPT that I will be taking. I did not take JLPT4, so not familiar with JLPT registration.

JLPT registration period was 4 Aug to 5 Sept last year. So you can probably look out for it during this time in your school (probably have posters sticking around or you can ask the receptionist), or through the JCS website.

I think Bunka should be able to register for you or if you want to register yourself, you'll have to head down to JCS at Midland House, 112 Middle Road #05-00.
