remember to take note of how to write each char correctly as the stroke sequence is what differentiates similar looking char like shi and tsu in katakana, shi in hiragana and re in katakana. ka in katakana and chikara in kanji. :)

No, I haven't bought any books yet. Was waiting for the weekend. :s13: But those links are amazing! Step by step instructions... It's easy for me to understand. Thank you! :)

Well, I haven't start katakana yet. But even in hiragana, some of the strokes look the same to me, but I know there's a very tiny difference between them. :s22: I'll just have to continue practising. :s13:

Hi, now that I have finished Ele 2, I have about a month to self study again before I am starting on Int 1. I am currently using smart.fm to learn vocab, but I dunno if that is enough to improve or even to maintain my current level. Was thinking currently on learning kanji at the same time in preparation for Int 1, but I do not know where and how to start...

My teacher suggesting watching drama and listening to japanese more to improve but I do not know where to start seeing that I understand like 1% of the dialogue for now...

I know I shouldn't be rushing, but it get too annoying at times knowing that you are learning Japanese for the past 7 months and yet you still can't read a simple story without looking at the vocabuary guide 60% of the time. At the same time, I was hoping that I could pass JLPT 3 by this year. And seeing my progress now, I don't think I could do it... I am also going to start university soon, so I wanted to make full use of my time now as I would have lesser time for Japanese later...

As what you said,you shouldnt rush things.
7 months will have different results depending on whether is it full time or part time.
It is the amount of hours you spent learning Japanese.
JLPT is only a gauge,its not a deadline that you have to meet.Nobody is rushing you except yourself.
Ultimately,it depends on what you want to get out of your Japanese language studies.
Certificate vs proficiency.

In uni,there are language modules also.
When you are in uni,it is about time management,you can still take up part time course.
You just started,be patient.
JLPT 3 requires you to complete a sizable amount of int level work.

You can try Japanesepod101 for listening also.

well, take your time bah... there is no point rushing...

for me, i had my JLPT 4 in 2007. and this year i am aiming for JLPT 3. i stopped my jap for 1 year because of my studies and maybe stopping my jap soon for 2 - 3 years to do my masters before continuing my Jap.

why i can continue is because learning japanese is my interest and so thats why i can slowly learn..

i have seen ppl with tons and tons of certs but no true proficiency... can't speak well... or barely passed the JLPT exams...

so in conclusion, i agree with adventia - Certificate vs Proficiency..
but my aim is both... :D

are u going NUS? their Jap courses is very good. u can continue learning and build on your proficiency.

Rome is not build in a day so take ur time and be patiient... :D

In reality, it will take v v long to achieve both certificate and proficiency...

I am an example... I am already planning to save up to go Japan study for a year... 70k i heard...

after u come back, ぺらぺらになれるわけではありません。

after advance you are supposed to be jlpt2 standard. jlpt 2 prep is basically pre advance (1 year) + advance (2 years) cramped into 1 year. at least that's how the ikoma staff mentioned. after advance is further advance. then after that i not too sure already.:s22:

Actually...my final goal for now is to be able to play Japanese games and to see anime/manga in their original form. Passing JLPT is more of a way to see how far more to go before I can reach that goal. Speaking would be a plus as I wanted to explore Japan if I got the money...
