one of my friend staying in AMK recieved her JLPT result today.
any1 got recieved theirs?

Just received mine today. 合格した。 just below my target mark. Got 367/400 tho.

Writing-Vocab: 85/100
Listening: 87/100
Reading-Grammar: 195/200

overall, not bad since i just self study without attending any prep class.

Yes, of course it's possible. Personally after 1 year of lessons, I self-studied most of the way till JLPT1. I also know of a friend who self-studied all the way till JLPT2, went for classes after failing JLPT1 once and passed that the next year.

However, everyone's learning style is different, so what worked for others might not work for you. For me, self-studying resulted in me being very weak in speaking, but for my friend it was the exact reverse - he was very very good at speaking (Japanese natives thought he was one of them!) but weaker in grammar/kanji.

So only you can decide for yourself which path you want to take, and you may only find out if it works for you or not after trying.

I have working friend also self studied and he too could talk well but not so gd in writing...
for me now, i could able to write but not good in talking

is it gd to go jap to study? anyone study there b4 or plan to go there study? how much would it cost?

Regardless u pass or fail, give yourself a pat on the back. 1 year of study is not ez... Given that you have to study your degree and JLPT at the same time.

JCMaths, what was your biggest difficulty when you tried to study on your own? Was it the determination to study?

I won't exactly say determination was a problem because I was learning Japanese only as a hobby, so it was not as if I had some goals I wanted to attain. I just studied as and when I felt like it, and met up with 2 or 3 friends to read or study in a cafe or macs on quite a regular basis back then.
