Hi Guys, any body here who has attended bunka's conversational class before? Any review or comment?

A bit late, but I attended an advanced class last year at Bunka. As dimitri said, around 16 students in the class. At the beginning of the lesson, we were given a chapter of a textbook. We went through the word-list and each student was asked to explain a word. Many of them answered "英語で説明してもいいですか" and in all cases, the teacher allowed it.

I had taken advanced classes in Ikoma before, and compared to Bunka, I think we spoke more Japanese in the class. But that's my personal experience. YMMV

You need paypal account tho.
Then mail a photo form (paste 2 photos on the form) to JCS.

They will email you on the registration.
Test Voucher will be sent to you 3 weeks before JLPT.

Ikoma. But for full disclosure, I'm basing my experience on one year of advanced classes at Ikoma with some very good teachers versus one session at Bunka with their strictest teacher (or so I was told). I felt that she was very strict about the use of electronic dictionaries in the class (i.e. completely not allowed) but very lax about the use of English in the classroom.

I would like to have some recommendations of Japanese teachers who provide private lessons.I have contacted two so far (Dmitri_can, and Ms. Yonekura Chie). Both of their schedules are full and so, they cannot take in more students.

That is so untrue. I've been in her PA2 class for 8 mths now, just promoted to PA3 today and honestly it depends on her mood. Certain days, she would allow the use of english but there are also times when she doesn't.

And it also depends on whether you dare to speak up. Certain days, i would find myself speaking a lot but on days where i had insufficient sleep, I would be quite quiet and blur.

My friend initially found her lessons incomprehensible but now he is able to understand what she's saying so i'd strongly recommend Bunka. However, try to get pass PA1 asap cos sentence forming is such a boring phase. PA2 is where the real fun begins

i have a kodansha's furigana japanese dictionary (英和／和英) to give away, reason is that i've recently upgraded to a 電子辞書 and also because this dictionary was given to me by a 先輩 when i first started learning japanese.

That's very weird. Adv level class, but lax at the usage of English? At that level, everyone should be using Japanese in the class. What's wrong with using electronic dictionaries?

Got one time, the teacher ever joke with us. If use electronic dictionary, then nobody need to go school liao. So need to give some money to the school to earn.

But i think she meant well. If use dictionary, then won't be listening to her already... to some certain extent, i can understand where's she coming from, but sometimes, cannot agree with her totally.

btw, Minna no Nihongo II 2nd edition is out. (^_^)

lol, we know that no one can learn a language from just dictionaries.

Wah, pa2 class lasts for 8 months? So long? That is longer than my uni school term. What did you all speak in class?
