i would recommend bunka over ikoma for up to intermediate 4 level.
esp the starting few lessons. coz bunka learns all the various forms first. this will result in greater understanding if say u watch jap drama or something like that.
that being said. the learning curve is slightly steeper over at bunka.

Anyone here attended a language school in Japan before? I'm planning to go in July.

Saw a notice for JCS intensive elementary class(twice a week) starting in June, if anyone's interested.

does anyone have any good private teacher without horrible rates to recommend?

I'm looking for a conversational jap native teacher. Just conversational only. I'm currently learning under a private teach, taking N2 in July (but not the hardworking type), but don't know how to speak at all. Current teacher doesn't allow recording for conversation practise so I decided to look for others to assist. I've some topics sometimes I want to talk about, I don't want to stop the flow of conversation to write stuff to make the conversation unnatural. I want a teach to correct me immediately and help me construct while speaking. So I need to record to listen back. Of course, writing down is essential, but more on the recording and listen back.

Any recommendations? thanks!!!

I checked once before, online, not native, she said SGD80 per hour for conversation which is too steep for me.

Or anyone tried jcss conversational class before? Okay? Comments?

Also any comments on JCSS JLPT prep class?

N2 cannot speak? I thought the curriculum usually include speaking skills as well...
How about using speeches? Ask your teacher if she can give you speech homework. That is, she give you a topic, you write a speech and then read it to her the next lesson, then ask for her feedback. Though speeches tend to be more formal than conversations...
Or you can record yourself speaking, then playback for your teacher to give feedback?

Language is a tool, and you use tools, you don't just study tools.

the only way to learn how to speak is to practise. Try to put them to use on a daily basis like any other languages you've learnt, change them into Japanese language.

Haha... I am a N1 holder and I admit I am a very bad speaker. I have learnt many words and grammars, can read Japanese passages/news and have no problem in understanding Japanese conversation. But When I try to speak, somehow 　I find it difficult to connect those words and grammars into a proper sentence. 言葉がつながらないです。

I guess it takes practice to be a good speaker. By the way, N1 or N2 is not a very high level considering the time put in to achieve that level. Nowadays, if you go for JLPT prep course, it is possible to pass N2 and N1 in 2 years.

I have (many) Japanese friends who had learnt english for 10-15 years in school but can't speak english as well. So yeah, dun despair and keep working hard.

Not to be rude, but yeah, of course, practise, with who? You're not getting the root of my problem, yet telling me something I'm asking for here. What you're saying, I mean, you're tying here, I'm totally aware and that's why I'm asking around for help. Someone to help me practise to LEARN how to speak. Also, everyone has their own way of studying, your method might not work well for me and vice versa. Or I should sit in front of a mirror, practise with myself? Who to correct me? My reflection? Or I should ask the auntie at the hawker centre in japanese for my food, she might be able to understand me, perhaps...?

Thanks for your encouragement. Exactly, you understood me! Learning english for many years also can't speak well. It's the same logic.

Yes, JCSS also told me a lot of people encounter the same problem - cannot speak well so it's not a surprise to them. Not sure how come some of you are surprise though. Well, people can do very well academically but not doing well at work. It's the same logic. And we're talking about a language here. Unless you pay or you're native or many japanese friends, I don't think it's THAT easy to find someone who'd help you.

I use Shin Kanzen Master for revision, and did practice papers. I also looked through textbooks and whatever I had done in previous classes.

I also listen to the radio shows of my favourite anime and favourite voice actors almost everyday. The speech in the radio shows is usually at natural talking speeds.

I'm taking N1...
Currently using Shin Kanzen Master series(have almost all the N1 books).
My worst is grammar/vocab.The N1 reading section is also horrible compared to N2.

the only thing i can say, try to spend more time on grammar and listening. Vocab is quite hard to pass... are u currently taking prep class?
