みなさん、

こんばんは。

Tonight, i'll like to share something about learning Japanese.

For a lot of you, when you learn "Japanese, at the start, was it a rush to want to learn? Was it due to some friend's invitation? Regardless the reason, you just began your journey with the language.

I feel studying Japanese is like taking a part-time degree. At the start, it seems easy. As time goes by, when you learn more, you start to feel that it gets difficult, then some of you decide to give it up, because you find that it's just a "part-time degree", something that you can give it up, or you no longer have the time to commit to doing this "degree". Some of you need this "part-time degree" for your future/current job, so you would have to endure through this phase. Then, there comes the final year "honours" project, the "N1".

Then it comes to a point that you reach Pre-Advanced and N2, that's where you decide you get your "part-time degree" and decides to stop learning.

No matter what happens, wherever you stop, do take some time to thank your sensei for guiding through the various modules in the "part-time degree".

Learning has never stop for me, as i still attend Japanese lessons with my 3 sensei-tachi from Japan, so that i can continuously give my best to my students. =)

should be this
定め 【さだめ】 (n) (1) law; rule; regulation; provision; decision; appointment; arrangement; agreement; (2) destiny; fate; karma

This term is rarely used in modern context. Usually see it in anime/period dramas

I don't quite get what you mean. The kanji for さだめ in the context I see is 運命 and not 定め

Could you explain a little clearer? Thanks

Hello guys,

I need some help in deciding which Japanese school to take lessons from. My company will be paying for it, so the price will not be a problem. I am currently considering Ikoma or Tomo, but am open to suggestions.

Here's a little background of my current Japanese level. I have passed N2 5 years ago after taking the JLPT preparatory course in Ikoma, but I did not do very well as I enlisted during June that year and did not bother studying hard after that. I have not been studying since I passed N2 until maybe somewhere in April this year, where I started self studying to improve my vocabulary. I feel that I'm currently still not fully at N2 level yet, maybe somewhere between N3 and N2 (closer to N2).

I hope to pass N1 by the end of next year. I also realised that I have difficulties speaking to my Japanese colleagues even though I can write emails relatively well with a little help from jisho.org. Hopefully the lesson can improve both my vocabulary and ability to speak naturally.

Thanks in advanced!

N1 now is not something that you can pass so easily nowadays. You need a bit of luck and of course hard work. I personally think that Tomo might be a better choice. =)

Following is some questions from N1 Jul 2015.
Pls try and tell me the answer.

「画一的」
1) かくいつてき
2) かくいちてき
3) がいつてき
4) がいちてき
================================
みなさんは幸せがほしいと言ってますが、
何______幸せになれるでしょうか。

1) にむけて
2) をめぐって
3) をもって
4) につれて

学生時代によく来ていたこの喫茶店、
その時のことはまるで昨日のことだと_________。
1) おもいだされる
2) おもいだす
3) おもいだすだろう
4) おもいださせた

I'm not entirely sure about the first one, haven't seen that before. My guess is 2.

2nd answer is 1.

3rd answer is 1.

I'm not to worried about not being ready right now, since I have 1 full year to study for it. I will work extremely hard, but I won't be too disappointed if I do not pass it next year (there's always the year after). Can you explain why you think Tomo is better? Thanks!

1st one:
answer is 1. OUTSIDE JLPT syllabus.

2nd answer:
answer is 3. Can see that your N2 and N5 grammar is not strong from this qns.

3rd answer:
Can u explain to me why u think the answer is 1?

Tomo (Moriyama-san) was previously a teacher in Ikoma for many yrs before he started out to teach on his own. Quite a senior teacher back in Ikoma and is quite experienced.

I guess if he`s daring to start his own company, he shd be able to uphold his reputation.

For the 3rd answer I used elimination method. 2 and 3 is definitely out, quite obvious why. 4 is made to do do something, but it sounds like the speaker is not trying to say he's made to remember as if it's like yesterday.

For をもって I haven't seen that grammar before, did a quick Google and found out that it's N1 grammar, so technically I haven't studied that. I know for sure the answer is not をめぐって and につれて. Was thinking somewhere along the line that the happiness is directed at something.

Thanks for the recommendation, maybe I should go for a placement test of sorts and find out if it is plausible to take N1 next year at my current level.
