I'm learning the last few chapters in Advanced class. N1 grammar points started appearing one after another in the textbook. It seems that using English to explain those grammar points are not going to be helpful anymore, explanations are only helpful in Japanese.

A few examples:

ならでは and だけは
とはいえ and けれども
がてら and ついでに

The grammars may looked similar, but the situations where they are used are entirely different.

The rumour about N1 grammar points that are rarely used by the Japanese is false. N1 grammars come very frequently in just a normal variety show, I don't watch dramas often but I believe N1 grammar and vocabulary appears there as well.

でも、先生によると1級の文法の選択し方は接続です。接続は大切です。

I'm already having a headache trying to find out how N1 grammar points are being used. どんな時どう使うのかまだ分かりません。

Yes, you are right. That's the "power" of N1 grammar. Actually for N2 grammar, it's the same as well. E.g

たとんに, につれて and にしたがって。

Based on my experience, it's not so much in drama. But definitely you can find some N1 vocabulary.

I beg to differ with your sensei. For N1 exam, 接続 is not that important, but rather the meaning of the grammar.

Following is 1 question that appeared in N1 exam for Jul 2015. Do let me know your answer.

新入社員には、一斉研究よりも現場で直接指導したほうがいい。たとえば
________ ____☆____ ________ ___________、現場だと場面に応じて指導できるので、成長も早い。

1) しても
2) メールの書き方
3) ひとつに
4) そうで

I have not reached that level yet...haha..
But here goes:
メールの書き方ひとつにしてもそうで
LOL, it's really difficult to be honest, so I'm using my basics to arrange.

正解です。

This is actually a N5 question in disguise. Quite surprised why you find it difficult... =/
Another one

出張の帰りに空港の売店で、家族___ _____ ___☆___ ______,人気の紅茶ケーキを買った。

1) への
2) と
3) お土産
4) に

I think it could be those "chim" words that makes it tough.
This one looks like a N5 grammar though, ahh...sh*t hahaha

へのお土産にと

But it sounds weird...
ドラマを見るのが足りないかな。。。

出張の帰りに空港の売店で、家族へのお土産に「する」と「思って」,人気の紅茶ケーキを買った。

Maybe...cos' the last drama I've watched was 戦う!書店ガール.
and it was only one episode (season finale)
The sentence structure looks like a typical N4 question.
I've heard of ようにと, never heard of にと.

I'm a little confused over とにかく and ちなみに. What's the difference and how are they used? and there's also ところで:s11:

Hi,

Anybody here has tried the NUS CLS External Language programmed? Would like to hear some opinions.

I would like to take the JLPT exams, does it prepare me for it?

Thanks!

Based on the information provided on the website, you might be paying $1.9k (based on 3 levels) to study N5 stuff (which you might be able to pay bout 1k outside to get the rough same lessons)

Like to invite anyone to review my 3rd edition of my foundation studies textbook.
As a gift, you will be given a copy of the book once it's published. =)
