Ah keong:Taking PT or FT?


Anyone studied in Japan before? I am actually having serious thoughts about pursueing a degree in photography there in the future (Aust was my first choice... but I wouldn't mind Japan either).

Anyone with experience studying there?

taking PT, most probably in August, by the time i should be back in sg from Nippon...

had friends studying in Japan though, u need JLPT 1 at least, and then maybe go thru some kind of interview for ur case and field of study...

best is u know some well know ppl in Japan write Reference letter...

but JLPT grading is not compulsory i think, i have a frn studying there, she didn't take JLPT1, and just had some exam to test your japanese lang proficiency to enter the uni

Woah, what's she studying there if you don't mind me asking? Is it VERY expensive?

errm.. its a long story...

basically, it started with exchange program 2 Japan, Hokkaido and then bang!

bang into this gal and knock her down, then help her up and then ask her for directions as my jap was that time 2nd best in the group... the 1st best was smoking behind...

the rest is history...

really, i see...

I have 6 friends studying in Japan uni.. so before they start their courses, they were there for Intensive Japanese classes for 1 year before getting their JLPT 1... then they start their uni courses...

JLPT 1 in 1 year sia... i study JLPT 4 in 1 year i almost died...
so i always ask them 4 help...

u can find japanese in sg too...

1 of my jap penpals i know here when she was here in waseda-high school or something in clementi...

now she is back in Japan...

having a Japanese friend basically allow u

1. Practise your conversation (listening, slang) skills
2. Writing skills (Grammer, Vocab) if u pen a letter
3. Deepening of cultural knowledge...

and if u are lucky, u may get a GF!!

i forgot liao......and haven't contact her for a long time. but i suppose it is expensive, cost of living in japan is higher than in singapore

Hi, I was thinking of taking japanese level at a casual level. but i am all too aware of the pitfalls of learning japanese. consistency comes to mind and that is something i will probably fail miserably at given the fact that i am starting uni this year. Can anyone advise me on what kinda of slower placed courses are available? I was looking at JCS and find their pace quite manageable. Does NUS have any elementary japanese courses as well? Thanks

Forget NUS. It's definitely not casual.

ehh JCS loading and pace may LOOK casual but the content is not casual...

My friend who grad from NUS (got JLPT 2) also tell me NUS also not casual...

A new revised test was originally scheduled to begin in December 2009. However, it has been postponed until 2010. The revised test will consist of five levels: N1, N2, N3, N4, and N5. N may be interpreted as being the first letter of either "Nihongo" ("Japanese") or "New".

* N1: generally the same as the original level 1; however, slightly more advanced
* N2: the same as the original level 2
* N3: in between the original level 2 and level 3
* N4: the same as the original level 3
* N5: the same as the original level 4

In addition, the tests will be offered twice a year: July and December. This will go into effect in 2009. The July test will only be offered for levels 1 and 2; by 2010, this will be only level N1 and N2.

The revised test will continue to test the same categories as the original. It will not test oral or writing skills.

wow... that means my JLPT 4 will become JLPT - N5 in 2010?
i planning 2 take JLPT 3 next year dec sia...

i have heard last year when i took JLPT...

they say the gap between 3 and 2 is too large resulting in lot of failures and stuff...

so they wanna introduce another level in between 3 and 2 to bridge it...

My Bunka EL1 test this Sat. I know there is a oral /wriiten test. How is the style like? Which major area they test you for? I very scare of the oral test. =.=

IKOMA. It's abit expensive, but teaching, sensei-s, customer service, environment, notes...all very good!
Encourages a lot of oral practice in class! Highly recommended! Taking FT Basic 1 and am enjoying every minute of it However, you must have the self-discipline to self-study a little after classes, because there will be a dictation test every lesson.

Anyway, does anyone know when will kanji be introduced in Ikoma?
