I'm assuming you're at Ikoma. I did not take the JLPT2 course but took the pre-advanced course, studying for JLPT2 on my own, so I finished JLPT2 while still in pre-advanced. I've a couple of friends who did both courses concurrently (although I think that's a bit mad) and when they started their advanced classes they were already studying for JLPT1 (one had passed already JLPT1 by then).

I guess it's mostly up to you how much you're willing ot study on your own. I suppose JLPT2 prep class will be a lot more structured but at the same time it takes the fun out of learning Japanese and you won't get to practise as much conversation compared to a normal class.

Hi, everybody. I need some advice.

Next year, I am given a choice of choosing either going for Pre-Advance Course or JLPT 2 Preparation Course.

From what I understand, it seems like if I opt for Pre-Advance Course, I will take that course for a year & 2years for Advance Course before going for JLPT 2 exam.

If JLPT 2 Preparation Course, I think I can take JLPT 2 exam next year.

I understand that for Pre-Advance Course, the pace will be slower.

For JLPT 2 Preparation Course, the pace will be much faster and the students will be prepared more towards JLPT questions.

I am unsure that apart of the time required for both courses and the contents [mentioned as above] of the courses, what are the other differences betwween these 2 courses?

Can anyone give some advice, please?

Thanks.

I used to be at Ikoma until about over a year ago (finished the advanced classes). Now I'm overseas so I've stopped learning Japanese formally. The pre-advanced classes are pretty good. Pace is relatively relaxed and the content is quite interesting. I do think the stuff gets better at the advanced level, but honestly nothing beats picking up a simple Japanese novel and trying to read it while learning Japanese grammar on your own. The first time you finish reading a novel and found that you've understood it is extremely satisfying. :) Classes can only teach you so much.. being able to self learn is imho more fulfilling. :)

Hi Everyone...

I really like this forum...very helpful! Thanks for those who has answered my queries abt which school for me to learn japanese...

I am now studying at IKOMA and It is simply amazing..I like the pace, the class is so fun, the teacher is fun too...

I thought 3 hours class each time will be so tiring after work..but amazing, I didnt find myself sleepy and tired..

It's fun to learn Japanese...I have promised to myself, as a reward I will be having 10 days holiday in Japan....

Cheers

I believe there are more mistakes. You may need to relook the whole doc.

Do highlight out to me which slide and the error rather than just saying "I believe there are more mistakes". Appreciate it. Thanks

Have fun with your learning!

How are you doing in your course last weekend? Getting better with all you hard efforts?

I study Japanese because I find joy and fun in the learning. The ultimate success in this learning is whether I can read, speak, write and understand Japanese. The ability to apply what I have learned is so much more important than the certification.

Taking exam is not necessary for me. I do not need the proficiency certification to get a job or a promotion.

After I have studied Japanese for some time. I need to have a fair assessment of my curent standard using internationally established benchmark, then I take the JLPT. Taking the JLPT exam is just one means of answering to myself what I have achieved so far with my time spent on learning.

It will definitely kill all the fun and stress me up if my purpose in learning Japanese is to pass exam.

Meanwhile,I am blessed with much fun in my Japanese and Korean learning.

Just sharing my thought with you guys

yah, its fun learning, applying, sharing with fellow classmates and speaking to Japanese...

JLPT for me is like taking a test to see what is my level and where is my weakness that needs more drilling...

which school should i go?

My wife and I are thinking about signing up Japanese classes since now she just quitted her job, and got lots of spare time. Both of us are in love with Japanese culture and often dreamed of living in Japan.

I'm currently working in an investment bank, and quite possibly that I can be posted to Japan in years to come (not for now, as finance market is in a turmoil). Although Japanese is not a must in working in Tokyo investment bank branch, having minimal command of Japanese will be advantageous.

Which school would you recommend to us? From what I gathered from this thread, there are 3 schools I will consider

1. Ikoma
2. JCS
3. Bunka

As my work schedule is quite hectic, I just worried that I might not be able to catch up with Ikoma's pace. From what I read here, their 1st lesson is already quite challenging.

I'm considering JCS, as their lessons are slower, and give me more time to digest. I must say I'm a slow learner when come to foreign language, I have stayed in Thailand for 2 years, and can't really hold a decent Thai conversation.

How's about Bunka? Their website looks quite impressive.

Any recommendation is welcome.

thanks for the link... seems like it's a showdown between ikoma and bunka. What's Bunka patent learning system, sounds impressive?
