i'm not promoting for cdjapan; just that i came across this while ordering calendars and find it quite interesting, so sharing this out.

Daily/Practical use Calendars

if you are really that interested in learning japanese, you can try getting such calendars. :)

there are also various artistes, and anime calenders on other pages (please browse yourself if you are interested), else you can pre-order (if they are available) in kino bookstores.

p/s: i can't stop laughing when i saw ... " The Toilet Calendar".

start with JCS first ba. registration is on one sunday in december. can check for registration date on JCS website or call up the school to ask @ 63383428 or 63388964. if you start to get real serious about completing your japanese studies (means clearing JLPT 1) then you can consider moving to Hougang Japanese school or ikoma.

no offence to you, but during my years as studying japanese, i have seen too many people dropping out of classes at mid-term, where grammar parts comes into studies and people find it hard to absorb (its different from chinese and english). this leads to low morale and eventually quitting the class because lessons seemed too daunting for them.

so my advice is start with classes that are more simple and cheap, and when you get really serious about studying japanese and completing the whole course, move into schools that are more pro (and of course, more expensive).

yes, i agree one tat. i too having hard time in learning jap but i dont mind giving it a go since i love it a lot. :(

wonder is there anyone from JCS? wonder what can we learn in basic lesson for the 11 mths? we got to go down to reg.? no online reg. rite? wondering when can reg. for the course. :o

lastly, anyone know of any software for learning jap?

JCS vs Bunka dont know which is gd for slow learner

i would recommend JCS (but don take the intensive courses if u are not comfortable)

JCS lessons is quite dry to most students as they only focus on bare minimum and writing...
so u may have 2 bear with it and don lose interest...

as the saying goes, "as the going gets tough, the tough gets going"

I am registering for JCS this december for intermediate class, if u need we can arrange 2 meet and i can show u the notes used for JCS Elementary classes...

this is my number... 9843 8382... :D

First Timer on this thread...
I've passed JLPT3 but was long time ago ( 2years ago ) and realized forgot a lot of vocabs
Thinking of taking JCS class, in Bunka I didn't see any class after JLPT3 other than preparatory
Wondering whether JCS class will be a little bit boring...I expect a more engaging class not just studying
grammar, writing, all the theories stuffs
Suggestion anyone??

ender>> haha nowadays i detain him during his break to ask him qns. i think he has a number of classes. will try to ask after school. I have many minor qns as well so I think it will take a long time to clear up...haha! Can I post my qns here?

S8027600A >> OH I just realised the elementary classes start with their special textbook. (The one with the patented method) I self-studied and entered Bunka at Int-3. When u start in Intermediate (Int-1 and Int-2 for JLPT4, Int-3 and Int-4 for JLPT3), their practices in the notes are like these....

Minna wa asonde imasu. Sorena noni, chan-san wa benkyou****e imasu.
---> (Ans) Minna ha asonde iru noni chan-san wa benkyou****e imasu. (noni is despite)
Everyone is playing. Despite that, Chan-san is studying.
----> Despite that everyone is playing, Chan-san is studying.

As for the more colloquial use...its sth like instead of saying doushima****a ka? (eg when u visit the doctor and he asks what's wrong with you) they will use dou****andesu ka? (which is more colloquial) It's basically more colloquial than other schools. But if you are really looking for a colloquial one (the way youngsters speak) there isn't such a course (except for conversation courses perhaps?) Still u should to understand the basics before you jump to colloquial.

Questions here! Please help!

1)朝、100メートルぐらい走ってシャワーを浴びてから、会社へ行きます。
どうして「浴びてから」をつ使いますか?「あびるから」じゃないですか?

2)「昨日どこへ行きましたか?」「ええ。本屋へ行きました。それから映画を見ました。」
どうして「そして」をつかいませんか?

3)文とだいたい同じ意味の文はどれですか?
昨日、明るくて、広いアパートを買いました。
Ans:これはひとがすむいえです。
Does this mean 这是有人住的家?

4)彼女はよく人にいい話をします。
Ans:彼女はうまいです。
???うまい??Btw, it means she always very encouraging right?

5)60年という月日は本当に短いものです。
翻訳してもらえませんか?

1)朝、100メートルぐらい走ってシャワーを浴びてから、会社へ行きます。
どうして「浴びてから」をつ使いますか?「あびるから」じゃないですか?

->this is a set sentence pattern

動作1(て-form)+から、動作2

ご飯を食べてから、シャワーを浴びます

After eating, i take a shower.

2)「昨日どこへ行きましたか?」「ええ。本屋へ行きました。それから映画を見ました。」
どうして「そして」をつかいませんか?

->それから (from there)
->そして (and then)

3)文とだいたい同じ意味の文はどれですか?

Ans:これはひとがすむいえです。
Does this mean 这是有人住的家?

->yes

4)彼女はよく人にいい話をします。

???うまい??Btw, it means she always very encouraging right?

->not really... making a good person?

5)60年という月日は本当に短いものです。

->the so-called 60 years is really a short thing.

i'm thinking it means "she is good in it (にいい話します)", or "she is a good talker" what u think?
Extra question from me :
what's the diff between ”食べてから” と ”食べたから” ??

I'm guessing 人にいい話 means she's a smooth talker.
So the reply just says she's great at it. I don't know if contextually this is a good or bad thing...

For beginnners I think JCS you have to go through the normal application dates I guess because it's usually full before it starts, but for people who want to join halfway for other levels you don't have to apply before the official start. I joined JCS for a few months in 2006 (I think) around mid year. I think this was for the Advanced II classes. I didn't have to take any placement tests, just showed them my JLPT certs.

I really don't advise people going to JCS unless they are tight on budget because the classes are way too large and there's hardly any chance for you to speak.

Written course material for Advance II in JCS is probably better than Ikoma in terms of learning how to read more formal writing styles but Ikoma's much better for listening comprehension and speaking. Also, in my opinion the people in JCS had very poor enunciation when they were asked to read stuff perhaps because of the lack of practice?

I think the registration date is somewhere in December but to play safe, you can call up JCS and ask. No one knows when the registration date is because it is a date set up by JCS and it is usually on a Sunday. just make sure you are there early to queue up because i heard there's always a long queue.

JCS topics are quite easy for the first year, they normally deal with greetings and the basic grammar for language (and tenses). JCS lessons are pretty focused on grammar so if you require conversational practice, you might need to sign up for conversation classes.

so far, i didn't hear of online registration for JCS.

software... i think have. a few weeks ago there's a guy trying to promote to me the japanese for beginner computer learng software (but i don't need it, so didn't really take notice). Maybe you can check bookstores like popular or kinokuniya. They might have, but whether the software is good or not, i seriously don't know.
