Actually a good way to learn japanese is to watch anime with english subtitles .. Now i can actually understand most of the basic japanese pronunciation of words but when i speak is still kinda broken .. maybe this way is more for the geeks but yeah

When you receive, you receive FROM, not receive TO..

Watashi wa Satou san ni purezento wo age mashita would be correct.

I will say passive learning is not for everyone. I have watched Japanese drama for almost 20 years and learnt little. Yes vocab is okay but Japanese grammar are intense and only after I started classes then I was able to better understand the language.

After having a certain level of Japanese, you can start to gain more knowledge passively from Anime/Drama.

[に」emphasizes on the person himself/herself from whom you receive the present.

[から」emphasizes the fact that you received the present from the person.

(I received chocolates from Sato-san (he/she might have bought it from a supermarket and gave it to you. I.e Sato-san is not the source of the chocolates) )

Quite disappointing to hear a native Japanese teacher telling the students its the same...

へ is used when you are going to a place, but specifically, it is to show direction towards that place.

私は　日本へ　行きます。I am going to Japan. (I am heading towards the direction of Japan.)

に is used when you are indeed going to that place itself.

私は　日本に　行きます。I am (indeed) going to Japan.

Answer given by unfinished-san is correct.

勉強しますか-> is an action
そうじゃありません-> It`s not that...

so it's not answering the question。。。

So while we are learning intermediate and advance grammar, let`s not forget about our basics, which are very impt...
