Seniors, I find that some Japanese words have same words but different meanings.

E.G. hashi means chopsticks & bridge.

hana means flower & nose.

How do I know when the words (either through speaking or through reading) means what meanings?

Sometimes you have to pay attention to the sentence.

When reading its easy since the kanji are totally different.

But when speaking/listening, you have to pay attention to the stress in pronounciation.
Chopsticks is HA-shi
Bridge is ha-SHI

Flower is HA-na
Nose is ha-NA

Of course there are words that are pronounced the same way like kame (tortoise or clay jar) and kumo (spider or cloud). In this case no choice but to guess from context. But this is no different from English words eg light (opposite of heavy or opposite of darkness).

depends on the sentence. better to know more vocab and grammar forms.

kami gami (kami) no kami wo kamimasu -- 紙神の髪を噛みます (Chewing Paper God's hair)

haha ok ok it makes no sense but i couldn't think of how i can combine all the words in one sentence...so ya get used to words having multiple meanings.

Will the other characters like ga, gi gu ge go, or ja, ju jo be taught as well?

taught?? i dunno dude...during my time at hougang japanese sch, we are supposed to memorise all the hira n kata by ourselves......u dun need someone to 'teach' you hira characters.....

Yes, the teachers will go through with you

pronounce? onli went thru once...i mean, along the lessons u are bound to pick up the sounds of the characters. N it wasn't difficult for japanese pronounciations as opposed to the 4 tones for mandarin...japanese are rather monotonous. As for writing, well also just go through once or twice. Basically everythin written on the board was in japanese by the 3rd lesson so u more or less get used to it. Time was spent teaching on sentence structure on the first lesson straight. N i find tat better.

nuthin.haha. as long as it translates it's good enough. U dun realli have to buy those super high ends ones with wat oxford english translation cum chinese translation cum blah blah blah. N of course certain asethetic appeals and portability are also selling pts.

hi, actualli no.haha sry but i dun have a preferred brand or model. anyway such things change everyday. i'm on a lookout for a new electronic dict myself. The last one i used is from casio. N i have no complaints about it although it's rather bulky. but tat was bought from japan many yrs ago by my colleague.

Is it Ko izumi Jun ichi ro? Or, Koi zumi and Juni chiro?

Are there any specific rules in pronouncing Japanese names?

I would like to ask, for seniors with electronic dictionary, is your dictionary able to translates the whole sentence from 1 lang (like EL or CL) to another lang (JL)?
