Hmmm?You mean like some kind of a certificate or something?I'm not sure...but I do know that when you take the JLPT(Japanese Level Proficiency Test) held by the Japanese government once yearly,you'll get a certificate to show that you have passed the test.BUT only if you pass,of course,lol.

I think you have to study Jap for at least 6 - 8 months before you can take JLPT4. But if you missed the test, you can continue to take the class and then sit for JLPT3 instead, depending on your pace.

I thought JCS is the cheapeast? But class size is very the big. Wanted to switch to a cheaper school too.. last week i went to take qualifying test @JCS for the anual enrolment in dec and Jan. Was with Inoue for almost 2 years. Quite a nice school with small group class and japanese teacher will always chat with you in japanese in the begining or end of the lesson. Got the personal touch .. So still considering to switch or not..

i hope can learn as much as i can in 2 yrs be4 go army :X.. ok learning some basic greetings , asking for phone numbers and asking nationality done in 2 days .. wow self studying.. heh. hirangana and katakana abit hard to remember leh.

If you just want to learn all the things you mentioned above, just spend $20 and get the textbook Minna no Nihongo and you learn all that you want within first 5 lessons.

Seriously, hira and kata can be studied on your own if you want to. Just write each of them 50 times and you definately remember them. Because even if you go to school, school wont help you memorise the hira and kata. They just ask you write 10x each in class and that's all. Rest is still up to you.

Satomi sensei is still there . Is there any male teacher beside Inoue sensei? Ya they kept changing address. Now located at Singapore Shopping centre beside park mall.
For me , there is no change in the teacher for the whole term. In fact I have the same teacher from E1 to E3.


Me still considering to continue or not....Waiting for the qualifying test result from JCS.

yea. i was in inoue too. but for only 6 months because there was a period of time where they kept on changing their address. very unstable plus inefficient. and they kept on changing our teachers throughout the whole of elementary 2, affecting my understanding of the lessons. however, i really miss the 'home' feeling over there. the teachers were really nice too! especially satomi sen-sei. is she still there? ^^ plus the other weird-looking male teacher? haha! i was laughing the whole time when he was invigilating us for our test. XD

Suggest you stick with Inoue.
JCS has the largest class size of any local language school.
Just do the maths: 1 sensei, up to 40 students, 105 minutes. So the sensei has less than 3 minutes to interact with each student. Its not the cheapest class if you go by this standard.

Furthermore, the danger with such a large class is that you can reach the highest level and still not be able to do a proper jiko shoukai (this is my observation of some of the students there when I joined the so-called "Further Advance" class last year)

Ive studied at Inoue (around 15 or less students) and Ikoma (between 7 to 10 students) before, and I can tell you the level of student-teacher interaction and opportunites for kaiwa practice at JCS is quite inadequate.

Yes. That is also a point I am considering. At Inoue, when you reach intermediate, the ratio can drop to 5 or less : 1 sensei. So plently of time for interaction. But expensive ..haha

not very sure... you could try bras basah. but i dont think they have it either. i have quite a few at home and i bought them all at kinokuniya cuz it saves me all the trouble and plus, they are having 20% off for members now. all the more to buy a nice, new japanese dictionary. or you could buy those electronic ones which are like superrrrr ex. =X

Not a member Anyway, the dictionaries are too ex, ranging from $66-$86...

If you have got a Nintendo DS, you can consider getting this software, 漢字そのまま (Kanjisonomama). Don't remember how much it costs but I did see it in Singapore. It's pretty good if you wish to have a basic Japanese/English electronic dictionary and you can write Kanji and it will show you the furigana so that you can pronounce it.
