hey, im from bunka currently PA1, just took JLPT 3 today. The paper seems easy but i dont really have high hopes of passing, especially grammar and listening, really tikam all the way. never study hard enough.

I thought that the PA level for Bunka isnt very good, and since most of the teachers are changing, i was thinking of going to ikoma for the their PA there. But, they start next week, its a bit rushed if i want to sign up immediately. Do you guys think that it is good that i switch over? Has anybody made the jump before (i heard its quite common to do so), will it be hard to make it through the level check? Or Would it be better if i just study myself through books and sign up for JLPT2 prep class?

Thanks.

.i just enrolled in jlpt 2 prep course at ikoma. was deciding between pre advanced or jlpt prep, in the end i chose prep cause 3 years is too long, but i think it would be better for those who have time and money, lol. pre advanced at ikoma according to the sensei over there who talked to me is more of conjugation of all the grammar that u have learnt now, more on coversation, thus more relaxed, but less focus on jlpt 2 grammar, vocab and kanji, if u are aiming jlpt 2, and have money and time, take both. if not u can buy the pre advcanced book, study on ur own and try to build up conversation and reading skills, can attend the jlpt2 prep course for the grammar, vocab and kanji and to chiong for level 2 next year.

hello loner, i'm from bunka pre advanced 2 also. i signed up for ikoma's jlpt 2 prep class next year. u can read my post above to see why i didnt choose pre advance at ikoma. there is a small level check with the sensei over there, u have to call up he school to put down ur name, contact and time that u wish to meet the sensei. the lvl check is a conversation with the sensei, but dont worry, it's more on explaining to u what's the difference between pre adv and jlpt prep class at ikoma. then the sensei will make the neccessary reccomendations.

If you can take their full time class, there are classes on their ongoing list that have not started yet.

anyone signin up JCS first time this 21st dec?

Seems like the school is ahem...not that good as compared to the others...As what others suggested, ikoma or bunka is a better choice ...

Wha...your plight is exactly the same as mine in terms of ability though i have a bit more confidence in my bunpou...you my clone ahz ...lolz...
But i decided to backtrack abit to maybe Intermediate 2 to brush up on my foundation first.
I dont want to advance for the sake of advancement,i will advance only when i have the ability to.Anyway must pass the sensei's placement test also.
Self study for JLPT 2 will be hard cuz the level gap is wide.
Since you are weak in listening, please note that they will be teaching the lessons in Japanese with minimal English. At least thats what i heard.
Whatever your decision may be dont mind telling me...we may end up as classmates.^^

hi loner and kazekai, i'm quite interested in signing up with bunka to continue my lessons. i was from ikoma previously and just took jlpt3 yesterday too. in ikoma, there are 2 paths to choose from. the regular one starts with pre-advanced followed by advanced, spanning 3 years. the other one is a 1 year intensive jlpt2 prep course. does bunka also has a similar course structure?

im also interested to know.. JLPT 3 to JLPT 2 at bunka good anot? take how long?

at bunka, the jlpt 3 to 2 route is pre advanced class, i think they focus mostly on coversation, we learn new vocab and very little grammar on the way, there are no notes for each lesson. but u will be forced to try to talk every lesson, how fast u can proceed to the next lvl depends on ur ability. the sensei will base on ur ability and grade u every lesson, u will not know how well u do, they will just tell u if u can proceed to the next lvl. some take 2 months some half a year still at PA 1. there are total of 3 lvls of PA. i have not been through advanced class before, so i dont know what they teach, but mostly conversation again according to my teachers.

i still have eight lessons left with bunka for PA2, so i'm still thinking on whether to continue after that. for JLPT2 takers i strongly advise you to take ikoma prep class, 1 it's faster, 2, they focus all on jlpt stuff, the only con there is is no conversation, very minimal. however the best option is to go through ikoma's pre advanced then advanced = 3 years = 1 year of ikoma prep class + bunka PA. that is how i feel.

yes bunka have jlpt prep class, but it does'nt open so early. the jump from 3 to 2 is quite big, the earlier u start the earlier it is isnt it??

one last thing, can i know why u want to switch to bunka? =) ikoma's teaching methods dont fit ur tastes? just asking though. or too ex? =X
