Can someone recommend me some denshi jisho? What brands/features to look out for? Where can i get the best bargains? Are we able to use it to check Kanji? If so, how to input Kanji?
Personally i think kanji input by writing is very important, especially when you dont know the pronunciation.
The other input method is to type in the hiragana and choose the appropriate kanji. It is alike your PC keying method. This is difficult when it is something new.
'Jump' is also very important, most denshi jisho should have that. The function is to highlight a word inside the explanation/example that you dont know .It allows you to jump to the dictionary that you want to check against for the meaning.
Another handy feature is the ability for it to pronounce the words in native tongue.
It allows you to see the intonation of some longer, harder to read words.
All this three functions are available in casio brand denshi jisho
The only thing i dont like about casio jisho is the screen, you cant see the words if the lighting is not good. But,you can either increase font size or turn on the backlight (battery consuming) to solve this.
It is important to see the number of words the dictionary that are inside contains.
Personally i really like the kenkyuusha jap-eng dictionary to be in my jisho and it is.My favorite as a matter in fact.480,000 words.
It is cheaper if you can get someone in japan to buy it for you.The person also must be knowledgeable about which shop has the best deal.
Ikoma is currently promoting denshi jisho from casio also.
The one i am currently using is Casio brand.
