i see, in that case... i would recommend that you master the hiragana quick..
the instance u know all hiragana, u should dump all the romanji altogether...

I can remember all hiragana characters now. It's just that when I try reading - like, on boxes or labels on food items, it's a very slow process. Yesterday, it took me like 30 seconds to read 'arigato gozaimasu' on the label of a box. HaHa!

Usually not the same sensei, if you were to take start your Ele2 class within 1-2weeks after your last lesson ends. Their schedule is on a roughly 2mth rotating basis, so unless you start 2mths later, highly unlikely you will have the same sensei...

Yes. You must pass both ORAL and WRITTEN test, passing = 60% to go to the next level, you can always arrange to go for re-test if you are not able to make it the first time round.

dictionary form of いいます = いう [ which group of verb it belongs to I think you can figure out from the masu form already ], which I believe you will already have learnt or going to learn soon [ means *to say* ]

polite form will be 言います[ written in kanji ] where dictionary form will be 言う, the kanji of いう you will learn in Int1.

PM me your email address, I'll send you something for you to train your hiragana [ with usage instructions ], will be helpful for you to pick up within 2 weeks [ with enough time to spare to revise for test ] since you mentioned you hardly practise... PLUS training aids for making te-form too...

Also, if you want, you may wish to list your number in the PM, in case you need to ask anything related to lesson last min and there's no one to reply you back quickly.

Have to pick up the pace already, this weekend is your 5th lesson already, lesson 8 will come very soon before you realise it...

Personally for me, i know both, thanks to my ex-teacher who has went back to Japan...
Knowing 国文法 helps a lot in verb conjugation, especially.. =)

now i'm taught to recognise ーる verbs as group 2 verbs; but there are group 1 verbs that end with ーる such as おくる..

so the question! do i have to individually memorise all the group 1 ーる verbs or is there a systematic way to differentiate between a group 1 ーる verb and a group 2 ーる verb?

Any suggestions or recommendations are welcomed, for instance, be it free/paid, or original English or Japanese. Whatever.

If you look at the powerpoint slides below, should be easier to understand...

All Group 1 verbs generally are made up of 1 Kanji character+1 hiragana character+masu

Plus if you take away the masu, if it ends with a 「i」 sound, e.g 「あ、か、さ、た、etc」, then it's a Grp 1. Of course there are some exceptions (10%), for those exceptions, just need to memorize them (見ます、借ります、起きます)

All Group 2 verbs are also like Group 1 verbs just that they end with the 「e] sound when you take away the masu, e.g 「え、け、せ、て,etc」.

There are also some exceptions like 見ます whereby it only has 1 Kanji+masu.

Generally, that's bout it.
