first sentence direct translation is --> i like to watch baseball match things where things equate to koto here.

2nd sentence --> i like watching baseball match.. particle combination no and ga is the example of doing it. like souji suru no ga kirai = i hate cleaning up.

One of them is grammatically incorrect.

If i am not wrong, 「私は野球の試合を見ることが好きです。 」 is grammatically incorrect.

私は野球の試合を見ることが好きです

koto is for normalization purpose.

no ga is the standard particle combination to use.

very basic.. :s22::s22::s22:

野球の試合を見る --- verb
add こと, it becomes a noun.

add こと, it becomes a noun.

that would then translate miru koto as a noun.. then how would it fit in that sentence?

remember there is a particle "o", how can you noun + 野球

you can only action/verb + 野球

in this case.

Treat ”野球の試合をみる” as what you want to turn into a noun with こと.
Like in English....

I like eating.
and
I like eating fish.

have different meanings.
