I have no basic Japanese knowledge too (Excluding what I self learnt from watching Japanese drama & animes) prior to taking up a course with JCS.

No test is needed for JCS EL1 enrollment. Having the passion to learn the language is important.

Dont think and worry too much. Just do it.
I did it after years of procrastination and I think I do fairly well for the past 8 months

BTW, dont use the word "Jap".. its rather rude.

why is this book not good? in fact, i find it less boring than my main textbook 'chuukyuu kara manabu nihongo'.

i like the format of the book with short explanation (though too short sometimes) of the grammar followed by exercise. the book you recommend, it doesn't have any preview in amazon. why is it better?

chuukyuu kara manabu is a textbook, whereas this book is more a preparation book for N2/N3.

The reason why i don't like this book is that there are no explainations of the grammar, unlike kanzen master.

I have and it's very thick but not as thick as the N2 prep course notes

I was in your position last year. Currently in Advanced 2. Decided not to take both Advanced & Prep course together because I can't commit the time to go down for class 2x a week. Plus I'm enjoying the slower pace of the Advanced class.

Anyone tried taking the N2 exams without going for prep class, after completing the Advanced level classes in Ikoma?

Gima sensei, Ms yamamoto, Namba sensei, Shida sensei are all good teachers. I suggest you sign up for lessons starting in Oct because there will be new textbook from then with illustrations and better examples than the old book. As for when will the lessons commence, i have no idea. I will suggest that you shortlist a few dates from the bunka site then head down to delfi to check the teachers and register from there.

i registered for oct lessons but the textbook given dont have illustrations. still the old one? when does the E3 commence? im hoping not to kena E3 yet if E1 and E2 are good enough for me.

To which book of Minna No Nihongo should I have studied if I want to be adequately prepared for the N4 exam? Cause I'm actually studying at Bunka but I prefer reading the MNH textbook as I find it easier to understand.
