Personally, i prefer a more interactive approach to learning which is why i remained with Bunka. I've been to the JLPT prep class for JCS and I don't really like it because classes are too dry and boring. At the end of the prep class, there are 3/4 of the class which i hadn't even had a chance to speak to. You may say that the content is a lot to cover which explains the lack of interaction, but if you actually look at the int4 content of bunka, it's similar yet there's still time for interactions. To each his/her own

You want interactive and have chance to speak either
1) Join a Japanese company.
2) Go Japan to study or work.

Or if you bother, you can find native Japanese in SG and practice with them. No easy way about it.

Ikoma is not interactive? Though it seems their seating arrangement is not the same as Bunka (circular), I thought they will have more interaction since their syllabus is slower than Bunka.

Mizusaki sensei is not teaching PA1 and 2, i think. Takatsuka sensei is teaching all the PA classes instead, I think.

I would like to know what are the differences in terms of the syllabus covered or the activities so that I can make an informed choice. =)

There are people who are at Pre-Advanced 3 (supposedly JLPT N2) standard and yet they dunno a JLPT N4 word... There are people who are in PA3 who can speak and that they are some that can't like a Ikoma Intermediate student... so u call that strict?

Mizusaki sensei is good, but there are other factors to consider. It doesn't mean Bunka is good for 1 and it's also good for another...

Wah, a PA3 student does not know ONE N4 word, he is considered as lousy?! One does not need to get full marks for JLPT test or internal school exam to move on to the next level, right? So I think it is understandable for someone to miss one word out of the few thousands words one is supposed to memorise. =)

If 1 student don't know, still understandable. If whole class don't know... something must be wrong right?

I know that Bunka doesn't focus much on Vocabulary... the pronunciation for the vocabulary as well...

Let's end the discussion here shall we? We have our own views about the schools. I am just citing some examples that i felt was unfair....

I see 1 good student who came out from Bunka as well and i see a good student who came out from other schools
Both are currently studying in Japan now under NUS program.

In Ikoma's PA class, they are using this conversation textbook, 新日本語の中級, while practising conversation, they learn bits and pieces of grammar.

In PA 1,2, i believe its like a system where the teacher asks 1 of the student to ask a question, then if the student cannot answer in 30 seconds, it goes to the next student, etc. Not much focus on grammar. The teacher decides when you can promote to the next level. This system might have changed...

True true. which is why I want to find out about the structure of the lesson, which will give me an idea of what I can get from going to the classes.

so anyone knows the difference in the structure? Does Bunka PA has notes? More grammar in Ikoma PA?

Much lesser i think... Previously i learned 3 grammar points for like 6 lessons...

You were in both Ikoma and Bunka?

I just read Ikoma's textbook, I cant find any grammar unlike Bunka's textbook, where it is clearly stated. Or the Ikoma teacher will provide additional notes?

Bunka's PA1 classes are now mostly taught by another sensei Mizusaki sensei is only teaching 1 PA1 class but I guess all the PA1 classes should be using the same textbooks?

I went for Ikoma's placement interview! got through and now waiting for their call when they open the full time PA1-A class. Praying for at least 4 students in the Intermediate class to continue!!
