haato89 - Word of mouth would suffice for me. I have a couple of contacts (my bf learnt japanese under this Taiwanese lady who did her masters in Osaka and I think another friend knows a tutor too) and perhaps dimitri_can who seems really helpful. Of course when the time comes I'll have to discuss this matter with my bf and any other friends who want to be in the same tuition group as well.

Ohh, Taiwanese lady teaching Japanese in Singapore, eh? That's interesting!
I seee! Yeah. How much would you have to pay, for a small group tuition?
To me, it's important that the language medium used is English.
I guess the Taiwanese teacher and dimitri_can use Mandarin too ( which bumblebee mentioned ), would be a plus for you.

Haha go try for N5 in July who knows you might pass! It's not terribly expensive

Ahah! I guess we'll see.
Not expensive, yeah . . . kind of but I don't like failing and I like to make sure I'm completely confident, feels a bit of a rush though, since July is so close, and registration ends in April, that's . . . like . . . ahhhh lol.

Can't remember the title =\ Aiya just look at the shelves with JLPT N5 assessment books...it'll be there...or at least you'll find a close substitute.

Now, I get why you mentioned, it's only S$15 with CD, it's cause it's in Chinese, I don't know nor do I speak Chinese lol. I was thinking, mannn that's TOOO good to be true lol.

I think dimitri answered this question in one of his previous posts as well. The pages on pronunciation are in Book 1 (Japanese ver) and not in Book 2. I didn't touch Book 1...went straight to Book 2 which is why I missed it.

I didn't see that. Ah, I get it now!!

dimitri_can -

Eh... which page are you referring to?

I was refering to page 8 C. 1, 2 etc. It seemed like any option could be the answer, especially for 2? My Katakana is very bad cause I skipped learning it lol.
Still looking through the pages . . . .

Don't worry about it. Just make sure if you ask them to open, bring the whole stack that you want to browse, then ask them to open. Don't open one book then later on ask them to open another book. =)

Thanks for letting me know!!

In case if you are looking for a private teacher, be warned that schools charge about $70-$80/hour.

I'd expect that to be the going rate, though . . .
Are private teachers, who aren't attached to schools cheaper?
If, it's individual private tuition, I believe the price would be the same.

The Asian version doesn't have a workbook. It's from the Japanese version.

I know.
I mentioned that I realised it after searching through the books.

I think you should check with more Japanese people... Maybe your friend is one who doesn't really care... If you want to learn Japanese, also must learn properly right.

I will, just cause I'm curious. But, while looking through the book, I saw the pronunciation and it seems natural to me, to pronounce that way without having to be taught.

Like, ni wa is ni WA, Hon HO n, na MA E, kinda like it's a given where you emphasize the words?

I saw the Osaka pronunciation, now that I didn't know, but I know they have another dialect. That was interesting to know. When most of us learn Japanese, we're introduced to the Tokyo standard Japanese so I'm not concerned on the Osaka part. I've spoken to people from Osaka and though they sound different, still understandable. I don't think it's improper.

About the Kino books getting expensive, well that doesn't sound good at all....since you said "getting", oh god if it continues to get more expensive than there really is no point in having it conveniently located here and having easy access...ugh!

The video above lol!! Didn't watch it but ....-shakes head- lols.

Page 8 is meant to be conversation practice. You replace the 「イーです」 with 「サントス」

I'd expect that to be the going rate, though . . .

Private teachers who aren't attached to schools are cheaper, but of course, the qualifications will also be different.

It's a bit different... See below. Some will go up, some will come down. :)

Haha you don't need to read the chinese lol the paper itself is in Japanese I skipped the chinese instructions lol btw i don't think there are any english instructions in the actual jlpt paper

N2/N3 prep class, currently nobody asking. i have changed to a beginner class. You might want to try the current normal class. Trial lesson available for normal class. The students who tried the trial lesson usually sign up after that.

For conversation class, we will start with pronunciation of words, then speaking of daily events using a conversation textbook topped with special notes, then move on to business japanese conversation speech and Osaka dialect (Skype session with a Osaka friend). This is a 1 year course. but i don't have anyone asking yet...

Notice why i put て+います、is because i am only in my 6th year for 国語. My students also learn both from me. LOL

答えは こんなに 長いと 思えません。 :s13:、ありがとうございます。

でもね、Dimitri san はずるいです。一般の日本語の学習者が その差を 分かっているはずないでしょう。

Dimitri san はどうして 日本語に こんなに興味をもっていますか。 国語まで 専攻しています。

i was kinda lucky to have met a very good teacher who taught me that. She has went back to Japan, but we still keep in touch. Everytime when i go Japan, i will try my best to meet her...

I guess if it's not my foundation in 国語, i won't have passed N1.

Also, along the way, i met other very good teachers as well. I have a total of 7 teachers. 1 of them is from Nagoya, super good in her Business Japanese and she's a very interesting lady.
