If you want to know what are my bets, do pay attention to this website. Following will be the exam tips and will be removed after a short while.

N5: 12am-2am (Removed at 3am) -Chances of spotting almost exact question: 90%

N4: 2am-4am (Removed at 5am) -Chances of spotting almost exact question: 80%

N3: 4am-6am (Removed at 7am) -Chances of spotting almost exact question: 70%

I think Hougang Japanese Language School is a good choice. I think they are currently the cheapest and provide a good foundation. Good thing is, after which, if u need, u can move over to Ikoma. Cos the textbook that both schools are about the same. =)

Remember to learn hiragana and katakana first.(I used manga as reading material too to help me)
I learnt the writing system by copying out many many sentences from the textbook and manga, instead of memorising the charts.

I self-studied and passed 4kyu(old syllabus equivalent to N5).

Of course there are some disadvantages as well. No one to correct ur Japanese if you go wrong. So you have to weight the options properly.

Yeah, but then there's this instinct that builds up..like I don't know why it's correct but my instinct tells me it's the right answer. Of course the instinct could be wrong if I'm not familiar with the grammar/vocab, but it has mostly served me well.
At that time, I also listened to anime radio shows everyday, after watching the anime, so that helped me too. I was into Naruto and Bleach so I listened to the radio shows without understanding a thing. Currently, I still listen to anime radio shows of anime I just watched as a seiyuu fan.
This really helps in the listening portion because after tons of radio shows, the conversation speeds in the JLPT seem slow in comparison.

Currently, I'm into variety shows featuring Downtown like gaki no tsukai, lincoln etc, so I've been watching these shows everyday for the past few weeks.

Any recommendations on websites to practise for reading and listening? Preferably for N5-N4 level. For reading, I'm looking for reading materials that do use kanji rather than having everything in hiragana / katakana.
