Another thing, for those aspiring learners,
it is more important to learn how to speak (tone) than reading/writing.
I've seen many singaporeans N1-2 holders speaking unnaturally like robots reading off a script.
Learn natural japanese by mimicking tones in variety shows/dramas (not anime pls), go drinking parties with japanese people if you have the opportunity.

As for myself, i went to japan 15 times since 2007. Earlier this year, I went to japan for exchange and got myself a japanese girlfriend. But now i could only skype with her everyday to maintain our relationship and my language lol.

back in singapore, i subscribe to japanese television which costs me about $35 per month but it keeps my exposure to japanese language active as well.

language immersion!

one more year i'll graduate from ntu and i will definitely work in japan!

Looking at bunka & ikoma website, looks like ikoma needs a year to complete elementary whereas bunka only require 6 months to complete elementary & 8th month to take N5 exams.

u need at least int2 for bunka to do N5. what bunka covers in elementary is hardly half the content of N5, in terms of grammar points

Ikoma's elementary schedule basically covers N5 level, for 6mths before asking whether you need prep course for JLPT. But some students will skip pass N5 and go straight for N4 at the end of the year.

lol, honestly i can't be bothered about the test results for this July's, but i'll still find out bah. (It's N5 only anyway.)
More pressured by the upcoming N4 test in December + trying to find a jp gf + conversational skills.

Sorry, it's N5.
Top scorer is from N5.
They do a 5 day prep class from Mon-Fri then go exam.
About 80-90% of the spotted questions came out.

Beside being large in size, how is the lessons?
Are the senseis good?

I am considering ikoma and JCS. Will love to go to ikoma, but it costs a bomb, therefore looking at JCS as an alternative.

My friend studies in JCS, JCS is very useful esp. for beginners who have no base knowledge on Japanese at all, they built your foundation pretty strong.

I'm from Ikoma, the classrooms are quite ATAS tbh (esp. 20th floor lol), but good learning environment though. Ikoma is good for anyone who wishes to pursue advanced Japanese.

But ultimately, it really depends who the sensei is teaching you, and whether you have the discipline to do self-revision.

Absolutely, esp. at 20th floor.

I got "pwned" by Kanai sensei during my entrance interview...LOL, must change my conversation to polite form.

I heard from my sensei she teaches N2.
