I was hoping the next video would be featuring the Alienware Alpha but seems like it features the Alienware notebook instead.

Seems like the Alienware Graphics Amplifier is also featured in the video!

Update on 9 November

Video Teaser for Week 3: Alienware

To go or not to go?

We'll be revealing Part 2 of this video on Friday, 13 November. Watch this space!

For gaming, choosing between Dell desktop and laptop, i will go with Dell Alienware 17 R3 laptop and the Alienware Graphics Amplifier. By its mobility nature, laptop allows me to bring it anywhere, any time, on any occasion on-the-go to play games along with my peers in utmost optimal tip-top condition with in abundance of graphics punch from the highest end GTX 980M on the ultra sharp IGZO 4K panel and PCIe SSD and Creative 3D Audio to make them go envy in green and take them down confidently in games with no chance of lag! The prominent shiny iconic Alienware skull and their signature LED lightings makes it easy to recognise that it is Alienware from afar.

Especially when i am at home, i can also dynamically increase gaming graphics performance several folds over to the full sized desktop class top level performance, with up to a top-of-the-line GTX Titan, with that Alienware Graphics Amplifier shown in the video. All i need to do is to simply plug in the amplifier's proprietary PCIe cable adapter into my Alienware laptop and... TA DA~! I can straight away enjoy same level of gaming graphics as my old and bulky desktop without clinging messy spaghetti wires and doing away with all that separate monitor, speaker and peripherals! With the above, i can already attain the full gaming experience and benefits from both laptop and desktop worlds! I get to play at the same gaming performance level with that person on the desktop, and i can also easily bring it away with its mobility and portability simply by unplugging the amplifier. Which gamer still need a desktop with this combination?

The long standing proposition that you can only game well on a desktop can finally be put down to grave.

I've always had my eyes on the dell Alienware high performance machines... but the high price also means I can only eyeball... :(

I wonder if the Alienware alpha will satisfy hardcore gaming needs... :o

 Dell Inspiron 24 7000 or Inspiron 15 7000 does not comes with DVD or blueray writer?

Such high specs and price should have all in one system including 4K UHD touchscreen and Intel realsense camera.

Even a $299 laptop with 15.6" screen comes with a dvd writer and usb 3.1~ :s22:

seems like consumers are shortchanged :(

No point having DVD. The last time i used the DVD drive in my desktop PC is just to install driver. In fact, you can download newest driver for most devices now online anyway.

In fact, the Alienware notebooks also dont have them. Take up extra space. Must remove to make it a thin gaming laptop. Thats why most notebook like the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 dont include it too. Would you sacrifice this component to make your laptop slimmer and to add powerful performance graphics and mobility? I would.

I guess having the DVD tray is pretty obsolete now, since everyone don't include them anymore.

Bluray need special software to run it so it will add to the cost. Most people watch blurays on their TVs anyway since its bigger screen. The DVD player can be cheaper than the software itself :s13::s22:

I would go for laptop as Alienware R3 laptop seems nice. Alienware R3 laptop is i7 has 17.3 inch UHD IGZO IPS Anti-Glare 400-nits display screen and best of all GTX 980M.
Also it comes with Creative Sound Core3D-EX Audio with Creative Soundblaster Pro Studio Software. There is Alienware Graphics Amplifier which is very suitable for gaming as it pushes the frame rates up.
The performance is much better than Dell Inspiron 15 7000 gaming laptop and perfect for gaming.

Oh its the Alienware R3 featured in the video? The design all too similar I can't really tell. Their 15"6 inch model only got R2.

I guess Alienware is pay for what you get. You get powerful gaming performance, superb graphics and portability and mobility. But I guess they can command such price because of the design that they have incorporated into the notebook.

The lighting colour on the back of the notebook is certainly quite attractive.

Nope, what i meant is its possible just that he used a incompatible card to do it.

I believe that if you want to buy a 970M first also ok, if later on you want upgrade to 980M should be ok as well.

If fry, just go call Dell. They won't know one. I deal with them before if fry, the will just replace the entire board :s13: - hope Dell won't punish me for this :o

Anyone willing to comment?

I think you will get top score coz of your posts - so nth to worry. grats.

can you find laptop components for sale? like 970M or 980M?

Does Dell gives free cloud storage if we bought Dell Inspiron 15 7000 or Dell Inspiron 24 7000 ?

For Microsoft OneDrive, does it only auto sync MS documents? What about auto sync Adobe documents or 5000 travel photos from camera folder or any scanned documents using our scanner into Microsoft Onedrive?

Dell does have a collaboration with Dropbox to give you some bonus space for a specified time period. (18GB for 1 year + 2GB basic) https://www.dropbox.com/en/help/4200

I'm not sure if this applies to the Alienware laptop models though.

Although this may seem very attractive, I feel that the 1 year period may be insufficient especially when you use the Camera Upload function and take many photos.

OneDrive also has the Camera Upload function. The new Office 2016 allows you to work together on the same document in real time in the native app itself. It used to be available only on the web. This is the same as Google Doc's where you can do the same, except you can do it from the app and not through the browser. For Adoble pdf files, just drop them onto your OneDrive or Dropbox and it will sync.

IMO, OneDrive used to be better but it seems like they will be removing all the generous space which they have provided due to abuse by a few users. No more Camera Upload bonus, free initial space removed too. It's a real pity.

Nowadays notebooks come with less space due to using SSD instead of traditional HDD. Cloud storage is quite important as you can save your data online and delete the local copy to save space.
