This Dell Alienware Graphics Amplifier made a portable became a non-portable, occupied more table space, so many messy wires running on table and need extra socket on the wall ~

I would rather get dell inspiron 24 7000 with Intel Realsense camera

maxresdefault.jpg

same, but the Dell Inspiron 24 7000 does not support Dell Alienware Graphics Amplifier nor Creative Sound Core3D-EX as like the Dell Alienware laptop series.

Actually all gaming laptop with quad core and at least a nvidia 970m cost around $2.4k, so to say alienware expensive is not just them.

The pro of alienware laptop is the strong material used for enclosure, it is heavy but solid. It is also big in a sense it is design to allow more air to flow through the system, and the same design can hold 970m and 980m gpu. The last bit is alienware allows you to open up the bottom and add new hardware such as ssd and ram.

Dell laptops are good quality bulild, cannot say for some other companies cheaper and plasticky ones

not all models ma. Only the few discussed models (e.g Dell Alienware laptop series or Dell Inspiron 15 7000) here are really built well.

Wah after some googling, this machine is really not simple, still need an external device, Alienware Graphics Amplifier that allows you to attach a full-length desktop graphics card to provide desktop-like performance on laptop by amplify the graphics. And the price for it does not include a GPU and it works with Alienware 13 laptop only.

But look like the article(1 yr old) is really outdated I just gone through dell website, all alienware 15 R2, 17 R3, 13's product description all mentioned can work with the graphics amplifer. The laptop in the video looked big, I am guessing it is alienware 17 R3.

Lucky it is optional for the price and imagine carrying around with the laptop.

for a Dell Alienware laptop series at that price is really scary. Probably for the hardcore gamers nia.

Most of us gaming use quality headphone, not sure Creative Sound Core3D-EX will enhance good sound quality during gaming when using Dell Alienware 17 R3.

I never use headphone leh.

Some people dislike headphones because they are not comfortable.

Also, if you use headphones you cannot get the surround sound which comes with multiple speakers and additional audio channels.

The hardcore ones want the immersive experience accompanied by powerful gaming performance.

I also search and google about Dell Alienware R2 and R3. It is v complex. The pic look alike for some of them. If it is really 17 R3 then I will research some more haha

Thanks for the thumbs up

This graphics amplifier for the Dell Alienware m17 R3 laptop can use for any graphics card? If yes, then infuture must buy laptop with USB-C / thunderbolt port right ? Can the graphics amplifier be used like SLI? Meaning stack 3 graphics amplifier together?

It is limited up to gtx980, reason I think because the power supply limit to 375w and the internals area for dual slot normal height gpu. But if future nvidia gpu is under 375w, it should work.

It use custom cable and support only alienware laptops only. so you can't just buy another laptop with thunderbolt.

In future version, with faster connections, maybe it can crazy enough to support sli, but for now, only 1gpu can work when you connect the graphics amplifier to your alienware laptop

They should make the Alienware Graphics Amplifier free with purchase :s13:

but PWP at least will tempt some buyers.. but not to mention they have to go buy their own graphics card if they wish to use it for additional graphics power.

Imagine you already spend $3999 on Dell Alienware 17 R2, are you going to spend another $500 on Alienware Graphics Amplifier?

That's a total $4500 for a laptop just for gaming~ :s22:

I guess Dell should have a better solution for a cheaper price, getting dell Inspiron 24 7000 would be better for all rounded use ~ :s22:

alienware-graphics-amplifier-fan.jpg

A pity that this Graphics Amplifier only included a 80 mm fan on its chassis. A 120mm/140mm fan mount hole option will have been more welcomed by gamers as they can take advantage to mount the 120mm AIO watercooling radiator from Fury X, and also for enthusiast to convert their air cooled graphics card with hybrid watercooling using standalone AIO cooler mounts like Corsair Hydro HG10 A1 / NZXT Kraken G10. I believe there's also enough vacant space beside the power supply to house a mini water reservoir should enthusiasts want to take a step further to install custom watercooling system.

Super hardcore man. But probably warranty void when you start modifying the components inside the Alienware Graphics Amplifier.

Better off DIY own desktop :s13:

I agreed with you.

Base on the listed price for Alienware 17 R3, I rather get one Dell Inspiron 24 7000 for home use and one Inspiron 15 7000 for other purpose.

Anyway it is tough to make decision on what we need to what we want.

Since Alienware 17 R3 cheapest cost $2,899.00

i will buy the following using $2,899.00
1) Inspiron 14 5458 with 4 Yr Ltd Hardware Warranty, InHome Service after Remote Diagnosis W/Accidental Damage(buy extended warranty to ensure 4yrs of usage without need to buy new laptop)

Price: $1,219.22
Reason to buy this: so that could bring it out for usage and not bulky ease of carry.
2) Alienware alpha with 4 Years Collect & Return Service(it dont provide accidental damage warranty)

Price: $1,494.81
Reason to buy this: use at home for gaming purpose

3) Dell UltraSharp 22 Multimedia Monitor - UZ2215H

Price: $289
Reason to buy this: Alienware alpha dont come with monitor need buy one

slightly overbudget by $100 compare to Alienware 17 R3 cheapest cost $2,899.00
like that go out can bring small laptop and at home can play gaming :)

You got your point but then lug the Alienware 17 R3 around is not so easy where its weight around 3.8 kgs.

after add in the weight of the bag + power adapter~ above 4kg for Alienware 17 R3 like what mosmos say like carry a sack of rice haha

Definitely if u purchase Dell Alienware 17 R3 90% of the chance you wont wanna bring it out.

think the guy is carrying Alienware 13 with cables connected to Alienware Graphics Amplifier. The Alienware Graphics Amplifier is small in size as seen in the video which is why you probably missed it.

didn't know it was the Alienware 13. got so small? I thought it will definitely be the Dell Alienware m17 R3 or bigger judging from the back of the machine.

Dell Alienware Graphics Amplifier is as big as a mini desktop~ :s22:

:s22: so that guy with Alienware 13 R2 left the public place without bringing his Alienware Graphics Amplifier home?

Haolian portable but forgot his bulky Alienware Graphics Amplifier ~

I guess anyone walk pass might have bagged his Dell Alienware Graphics Amplifier as a Thanksgiving gift from Santa~ :s22:

At 3.78kg for Dell Alienware 17" and 3.2kg for Dell Alienware 15" is not exactly portable but still manageable. If the user want to use together with Alienware Graphics Amplifier then it is for desktop use.

When u purchased the Alienware Graphics Amplifier @ $419 SGD you still need to throw in a GPU in it thus another 500-600 additional cost will be involve depend what kind of GPU u wish to add in. Together with Dell Alienware 15 or Alienware 17 original cost the final pricing for the purchase will be quite a sum unless you willing to spend.

But the guy in the video seems to plug out as soon as he closed the laptop. Does it have auto-saving function while shutting down? The guy seems to plug out so easily, hopefully the cable is tight, imagine accidentally come off... :s22::s22::s22:

:s22: I guess the guy in the video with Dell Alienware 13 R2 already out of battery and need to go home to charge.

The so called all day battery life on their Dell website only last about 5 hours~ :s22:

I guess gaming on Dell inspiron 15 7000 with 4K UHD touchscreen rated 8 Hrs battery life can last through morning to evening~
