Alienware got branding wor. Alienware is one of the most established brands for gamers.

Also, all that fancy lighting and the design will surely add to the cost.

True, but razer and other companies adopting more cool designs and bling, tough to stand out and demand premium

I just touched touch the insprion 15 7000 and realised the top frame is made of solid aluminum, no keyboard flexing. I think the track pad is also made of metal too. The lid cover and base is made of soft rubber, all in it feels very well constructed.

Dell laptops are good quality bulild, cannot say for some other companies cheaper and plasticky ones

The video is trying to show that the Alienware laptop paired with the Graphics Amplifier and the Dell PC are both perfectly capable of high performance gaming.

Except that the Alienware 15 can provide mobility and portability to the user.

Using Laptop has its perks. No more excess cabling and messy workstations. All you need is a charger at bare minimum. Mouse is for convenience.

Yup, extra gaming power when u need it for demanding games.

I think for non serious gamers, can consider to get Dell Alienware 15 R2 or ALienware 17 R3 without Alienware Graphics Amplifier, IIRC the price can be cheaper by ~$700. ;)

Yea, but only what u really need. Can get inspiron 15 7000 too if even more budget

Dell Alienware 17 R3 laptops is cheaper by SGD500 in Malaysia, our import taxes are too high~

Maybe just get a AIO Dell Inspiron 24 7000 would be a better gaming experience with Intel Realsense Camera, since Dell Alienware 17 R3 at 3.8KG too heavy to be portable~

This Dell Alienware Graphics Amplifier made a portable became a non-portable, occupied more table space, so many messy wires running on table and need extra socket on the wall ~

I would rather get dell inspiron 24 7000 with Intel Realsense camera

Rich gamers who know nuts about PC assembly will find value in this amplifier one.

This is very true. Rich ASK just want the very best gaming performance notebook they can offer.

Alienware just cater to them with a All in One solution with Alienware 17 incl Alienware Graphics Amplifier. You get the best graphics for your gaming.

Teach them how to set it up and run it thats it. No need to think long and hard which are value for money, which specs are the best etc.

think the guy is carrying Alienware 13 with cables connected to Alienware Graphics Amplifier. The Alienware Graphics Amplifier is small in size as seen in the video which is why you probably missed it.

didn't know it was the Alienware 13. got so small? I thought it will definitely be the Dell Alienware m17 R3 or bigger judging from the back of the machine.

Bear in mind that though this external Alienware Graphics Amplifier is a plug-and-play solution but it doesn't work exactly like Nvidia Optimus/AMD Dynamic Switchable Graphics such that you can toggle between internal discrete and external graphics both ways while laptop is operating.

If you got to leave the place with your Alienware notebook, you need to shut down the entire laptop first and then to plug out the amplifier cable (or vice versa also possible) and then turn it on to switch it back to internal discrete graphics. Laptop will automatic goes into shutdown once you plug out the amplifier cable while the laptop is still turned on. In this mode, sleep function will also be disabled, leaving only shutdown option available.

This can potentially cause data loss issue to many as people may accidentally forgot to save their work on the notebook right before plugging out the amplifier cable, thinking that it is a 2-way plug-and-play dock as it seem to be one since you can plug in to operate while laptop is already on.

But the guy in the video seems to plug out as soon as he closed the laptop. Does it have auto-saving function while shutting down? The guy seems to plug out so easily, hopefully the cable is tight, imagine accidentally come off... :s22::s22::s22:

according to the website, the Dell Alienware 17 R3 with GTX 980M battery can last about 6.5 hours. during gaming it is better to plug into the wall socket in case the battery is empty and you definitely wouldn't want that when you are in the game killing the boss enemy.

last about 6.5hours means actual mileage confirm lesser. I don't think the Dell Alienware m17 R3 can last that long in actual usage.

At 3.78kg for Dell Alienware 17" and 3.2kg for Dell Alienware 15" is not exactly portable but still manageable. If the user want to use together with Alienware Graphics Amplifier then it is for desktop use.
Dell Alienware 17" R2 at 3.8KG is too heavy to walk around in Singapore, consider you cannot find a seat in MRT or Bus, not even a space for your backpack on the floor, from Joo Koon to Ponggol ~ :s22:

I agreed with you.

Base on the listed price for Alienware 17 R3, I rather get one Dell Inspiron 24 7000 for home use and one Inspiron 15 7000 for other purpose.;)

Anyway it is tough to make decision on what we need to what we want.

instead of the Dell Alienware m17 R3 laptop, for the price i will simply get 1 desktop + 1 laptop.

Dell Alienware 15 and 17 R3 laptops are expensive but the specs will give one a good gaming experience. furthermore there is Alienware Graphics Amplifier and
Creative Sound Core3D-EX.

means there is no Alienware Graphics Amplifier and Creative Sound Core3D-EX for anything below the Dell Alienware 15 17 models?

The graphics amplifier is a smart solution as Dell do not need to put the latest Nvidia mobile GTX980 in their alienware.

http://www.geforce.com/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gtx-980
The gpu is a full GTX980, very fast but very hot and big to cool inside a laptop.

If the 3-4KG alienware is heavy, imagine what more weight will be added to laptops when you have GTX980 inside.

This graphics amplifier for the Dell Alienware m17 R3 laptop can use for any graphics card? If yes, then infuture must buy laptop with USB-C / thunderbolt port right ? Can the graphics amplifier be used like SLI? Meaning stack 3 graphics amplifier together?

I saw alienware 15 has two m2 ssd slot and alienware 17 has 4 m2 ssd slots! To maximise cost, you can opt for the 1tb HDD and add your ssd yourself!

wah, just 1 Dell Alienware 15 can already pack 2 m2 SSD? This really brings the entire laptop to a different level!
