We prolly look like some idiots at store if we play with the Intel RealSense Camera using RealSense Technology laptops/camera/equipment

Maybe can wait until SITEX 2015 next month to see if there are any Intel RealSense Camera to play with.

Seems like Intel RealSense can have more possibilities and uses...

Intel Perceptual Computing SDK 2013 Advantages:

  • Smaller and less expensive: The Intel camera (produced by Creative) is smaller than a Microsoft Kinect for Windows sensor, is powered over USB, and is designed to sit on top of most computer displays.
  • Close-range tracking: It is specifically built for close range tracking, with a range of 0.5ft to 3.25ft (and a diagonal frame of view of 73 degrees).
  • Hand posture/gesture recognition: The SDK allows recognition of hand postures like thumbs up, thumbs down and peace, and gestures like waving, swiping and circling with a hand. Other gestures like grab and release or pan and zoom can be implemented by examining the openness of the palm and fingertip positions.
  • Facial analysis: The Intel SDK provides capabilities for face tracking, recognition and detection as well as age and gender determination. Expressions like smiling and winking can also be detected.
  • Speech: Developers can leverage speech recognition by specifying a predefined list of commands, or multiple lists constituting a grammar. The SDK also has built-in support for speech synthesis powered by Nuance.
  • Raw data: Developers have access to raw color and depth data from the sensor along with a confidence map to account for distance and light conditions.
  • Framework support: The Intel SDK supports frameworks like Processing, Unity and OpenFrameworks and ships with basic examples to make setting up and writing simple apps with these frameworks easier.

Intel Issues:

  • Getting some of the deeper features (like age and gender detection) to work is a bit tricky.
  • Due to the close range of the tracking system, hand gestures must be designed such that a user’s hand doesn’t occlude their own view of the display.

Best for:

Desktop/laptop applications where the user will be seated in front of the PC.
Close range applications where features, apart from hand tracking and recognition, are necessary without too much precision or accuracy.

The Creative camera is small meh ?
I thought somebody posted the photo and it looks big?

Dun think the feature of Intel RealSense will work like photoshop, anyway only time will prove that..;)

Maybe it digitalise some 3D photo realistic of sorts... ...
Some next level photography that feels more real or more gimmicky lol.

seems like the Intel RealSense 3D is something like the xbox motion sensor tracking technology.. but its a conventional camera, an infrared camera, and an infrared laser projector which can track your finger and hand movements..

seems like will complement Windows 10..

Is Intel RealSense supposed to be better than xbox motion tech ?

Found out a lot at this website.

In fact there is many things out there that can be done with intel RealSense 3d camera.

Things like:

1. Realistic Avatars
2. 3D Scanning for 3D Printouts
3. Green Screening Without a Screen
4. Measuring Distances in Pictures
5. Photo Layer Editing and Focusing
6. Holographic Navigation

And a couple of devices from Dell are able to do it!

Would like to try out the RealSense features, anywhere we can do a demo ? Or is it better to wait for next month's SITEX ?

Think its still too advanced for our time. Our 3D VR glasses can barely make it.

Holograms are too ambitious for now.

Even for intel realsense there no real attractive applications for typical users .

Seen the review here for device with 3D intel realsense though its almsot year ago though
http://www.engadget.com/products/dell/venue/8-7000/

Probably copied some design from kinect and ps motion cam ... no surprise there

Anybody knows if the Intel RealSense 3D tech is able to take those 3D videos you find in the cinemas where you have to wear 3D glasses to experience the effect ?

other than having facial expression, head movements or hands legs movement, maybe Intel RealSense detector can built in brain scan~

article-0-0CBFB9F7000005DC-319_468x422.jpg

this is scan brain waves :s22:

my friend FYP project related to using this.. use brain waves to control some device. if this is consumer-level then its 1 level higher than Intel RealSense technology liao :s13:

hopefully this year end IT show will have some demo booth to showcase the Intel RealSense technology..

And since all laptops/desktops/AIO will come with Windows 10, it will be good to showcase the Intel RealSense technology working with Windows 10 Hello.

It can cater to business users as well, conference calls/meetings with overseas people using the new technology for video chat.

people using matlab with it

The Intel RealSense tech is useful for video conferencing.
Windows 10 Hello is for logging into Windows right ?

It is supposed to be easier to deploy. The Dell 8" Venue shows you no need a box and messy cables to power the tech. But motion sensing can only move forward if Intel and Microsoft integrate their technology knowledge to come out with a standard. If Microsoft delay, Apple may snatch this technology selling point from their grasps again.

Base on HWZ article intel realsense camera can appear in phone too :)

"Intel CEO Brian Krzanich described Intel’s RealSense camera as capable of using its vision-based capabilities to deliver new and innovative usages and capabilities across a variety of form factors. In fact, Intel’s RealSense 3D camera has already found its way onto desktops, laptops and tablets, including the new Dell Venue 10 7000, the larger sibling of the 8.4-inch Venue 8 7000. It’s nice to see that the RealSense 3D technology has finally made its way onto the most ubiquitous mobile device today – even if it is just a prototype."

Hmmm would be interesting to see what the Intel RealSense tech can do for selfies and normal photos using the phone.

the dell Inspiron 24 7000 is ultra thin and ultra-stylish and is the thinnest 23.8" all-in-one desktop with Intel realsense camera able to accentuate any room in the house... :o

How much is the Dell Inspiron 24 7000 AIO desktop?

Devices with Intel® RealSense™ Camera have three lenses: a conventional camera, an infrared camera, and an infrared laser projector. Together, the three lenses allow the device to infer depth by detecting infrared light that has bounced back from objects in front of it. This visual data, taken in combination with Intel® RealSense™ motion-tracking software, create a touch-free interface that responds to hand, arm, and head motions as well as facial expressions.
Expect amazing things from Intel® RealSense™ Camera. This is where it all changes.

DOTA2 level I would think. Anything more and a normal desktop PC would give better options...
