The LG G4 isnt 1 year old yet so logically all phones on the market are still under warranty.

The way they decide the warranty start date is your purchase date. Without any proof of purchase to set the date, they will read the IMEI number and use that to lookup the manufacture date (which will be earlier than the purchase date)

i just went to the service centre. apparently you need proof of purchase to claim warranty in which i totally lost it when moving house.

without that, they will charge 400+ for replacing mobo / 200+ for replacing digitizer (whichever applicable):(:(

damn suay..plan to go back samsung already..the s7/edge seems fun.

Good exp from this is to scan all receipts/contracts/etc if will be needed for proof of purchase in the future. I misplaced my contract, but I always scan all my receipts/contracts/etc, hence I was able to provide the scanned version.

I didnt bring my receipt in the initial visit and they just used the IMEI to query the manufacture date. Who did you speak to and why did they not fall back on the manufacture date by checking the IMEI? Every service centre of every brand practices that.

sure or not. they say if i dont have now, bring the thing when collection. then i told them i dont have it as i lost it already.

then she start to tell me on the price for mobo/digitizer replacement..

*and may i ask why there is schedule for a repair for my registered lg g4 website? i did register there...

as mentioned by some a svc centre (be it LG, Sammy, Sony or whatever else) is able to check your manufacturing date via imei and more often than not, they will accede with the repair based on manufacturing date if no proof of purchase is provided. Although, its a practice that they rather not encourage but it is done. You can always request for them to do such a check and base the warranty on manufacturing date.

On a side note, their system can also tell if its a overseas/export/local set. LG does not have a international warranty so it will only be honored for a local set. Put pressure on them and not let them put pressure on you. :)

twlee88 i think you better call them again for second opinion because im pretty sure they can and will fallback on the IMEI number to register warranty on 1st visit if you have no receipt because that is literally what my service guy did, both when I was a LG customer and a Sony customer.

And pure common sense even dictates that there is no way your warranty could be 'up' yet because the G4 isnt 1 year old. Every G4 on the market right now doesnt hit 1 year old till the end of May 2016.

If the person serving your case wanna play hardball and refuse to honour warranty without a receipt, I think you can call in to complain already. The receipt thing exists mainly to prove that you got the phone at a later date than the manufacture date, which lets them set the warranty window to better match your ownership period of the phone.

just call the helpline. the guy was saying that without the proof of purchase, they cant use the imei / serial number to determine the warranty. ask me to go down lg service center again...

i don't think it is fair to fault the customer for not having a receipt.

manufacturing date is good enough for warranty claims.

speak to a manager or someone who can make decision.

There is only one very good and valid reason to ask for a proof of purchase regardless is to avoid fixing a stolen phone.

So it is also not fair to fault the manufacturer for not willing to repair without some kind of proof of purchase/ownership.

It really goes both sides.

Having said that, if they are pushing/following this policy strictly, they shouldn't even accept any repair request without any proof of purchase/ownership.

how about getting a copy of the re-contract form from the telco?

telco probably will ask you to pay though.
