overheat while using GPS

Dear All,

I have a less than 3 months old G4 (511 motherboard and v20s-SEA-XX H815 local set) but have this peculiar problem. When driving and using GPS (google maps), within 20 minutes I will get warning message that the phone is too hot and it will reboot and shutdown (can't remember the exact wording but to that effect). The phone will be very scorching hot on the back. Now i do not put the phone in direct sunlight when driving, in fact even during evening time or night the phone will overheat the same. Now does anyone have the same problem and do you think the service center will repair this? To me this is not normal since every other phone I used do not have this problem. In fact even my redmi 1s does better at gps navigation than this LG G4.

twlee88 i think you better call them again for second opinion because im pretty sure they can and will fallback on the IMEI number to register warranty on 1st visit if you have no receipt because that is literally what my service guy did, both when I was a LG customer and a Sony customer.

And pure common sense even dictates that there is no way your warranty could be 'up' yet because the G4 isnt 1 year old. Every G4 on the market right now doesnt hit 1 year old till the end of May 2016.

If the person serving your case wanna play hardball and refuse to honour warranty without a receipt, I think you can call in to complain already. The receipt thing exists mainly to prove that you got the phone at a later date than the manufacture date, which lets them set the warranty window to better match your ownership period of the phone.

Honestly, LG isn't playing nice here. In the first place, they could check if it's local set and why give their own customers such a hard time when it has announced bootloop issues. In fact, they should honor every single g4 manufactured by them.

This is also part of my worry for getting LG phone coz I called them last year to ask about buying a used g4 from online sellers like carousell, the cso told me no transfer of ownership for warranty. This is totally ridiculous and I did not proceed to buy, which is a blessing in disguise for the notorious bootloop months later.

Feel sad for twlee88. But I think you should insist on them to repair your phone foc since they are the ones passing down all these problems to consumers in less than 1year. Even when I send in my lousy xiaomi for a small repair, the cso didn't ask for any warranty but just check the phone imei only as the phone isn't 1year yet. Heard Samsung and Apple are the same. What's so special about LG?

Guys, I have a bad feeling that LG will not honor your bootloop issues after your 1ye warranty is up from how i see it now... :( gotta warn 3 of my friends using g4 as they're not the first batch of 505 :s22:

Thanks dpi295 for the kdz!

Separate note, anyone tried the LG G4 at iLight at marina bay?

Tripod is recommended but if you're brave enough to sit the phone on the railing, you can still get a good view. Around 7:30pm to 7:45pm when the sky is still dark blue, gets the best results

How about the Note 5 or the S7?

Thing is, there's like a telco switch promotion that is ending soon and V10 seems to be out of my budget range. Don't really mind about the updates, main focus is on the camera.. Can't wait til G5 as a result of the promo. So only worried if G4 has many deep underlying issues even after so long, and I'm getting a totally new set in 2016 so wondering if the issues such as bootloop would affect me

Me: this happened this morning, i didn't carry the warranty with me everyday. Im still need to get back to work.
Cso: ok, but please produce your receipt when you collecting your phone.
Me: ok.

Also i did my online registration already when i got my phone months ago. I dont see why i must produce my receipt on the spot. Anyway it works for me. Hope it helps.

haha. that if you still have your receipt and show them during phone collection. what if they change my mobo and when i collect..still dont have the receipt..am i suppose to pay 400+?

If u read my earlier posts. I went down 2 times to get my G4 repaired. Both times i didnt produce my receipt. And both times they reminded me. Both times i got a replacement hp. Can lah, dont worry. U paid for your hp, its nothing wrong for them to fulfill the warranty. They should not charge u.

twlee88 i think the person attending to your case was new or something because most of us here didnt end up with service staff demanding a receipt or quoting repair prices.

It would be too costly to fix it at any 3rd party repair shop - I doubt they have parts for the G4 either.

It is still under warranty, and this phone has not even been released for a year - so all local sets are still under warranty based on its date of manufacture.

I would tell them about this point and to look at it from this angle and perspective. Further more, it is a manufacturing defect that caused such an issue which LG has admitted - http://www.androidauthority.com/lg-admits-g4-bootloop-problem-hardware-fault-669603/
