ya man the email just came into my gmail inbox today.

the more uneasy part is because MM is so new, I dont really know is this a v20xx issue exclusive to LG, or is this really a MM thing and will affect other MM phones

right now for the moment im just content to stick to lollipop though im still seeking a newer v10 KDZ (either 'd' or 'e' since im on 10c and its the version that doesnt have long exposure support for 3rd party cam)

grrrr. frustrating problem. i have lots of pic organizing to do and then there is this problem. so the only way not to get that 0kb problem is either use the stock file manager to move these pics or to do it by PC?

normally either the proof of purchase or the contract slip will do.
for me, i only show the screenshot of my contract that was signed at the telco.

service centre has emailed back to me on the SD card issues on MM related to 3rd party apps and the response is pretty lackluster.

Long story short they said 3rd party apps "dont have permission" to write to SD card so I should just wait for every developer of every 3rd party app to properly support LG's MM.


The problem here is, it's not that the apps dont have 'Permission' to write, because clearly they can still create files on SD card, and clearly I can still grant an app SD write access through the storage access framework which is still there in MM.

The real problem is that these files, once created on the SD card, are completely unreadable on MTP or LG Bridge (they show up as 0kb files), worse still, this appears to be intermittent and random-- sometimes when i copy a large amount of photos to the SD card, a small percentage of them actually still are readable with no issue, while a large majority will still appear as 0kb when I view on the PC. This is a sign of something in the MM software not being properly ironed out.

Since LG has denied this being a real problem (because their email says app devs have to take effort to support LG's V20xxx software's mysterious SD card write-permission implementation), MM on the G4 is to me hereby a permanent no-go for me (doesnt help that the MM battery life is still garbage)

I actually have to visit the service centre again to try and replace my camera element cos the lens coating has worn, if they tell me they're going to wipe phone, hopefully I can request a flash to v10 and not v20

I think all their refurbished logic board is preloaded with MM. I pretty sure they will not put the additional effort to reload Lollipop.

Its hardly the most elegant solution but I think its the most practical. Say your entire album contained photos taken by a 3rd party app.

Your PC wont be able to read them directly if you connect the phone to PC
Phone SD Card --X-> PC

The permission issue lies on the SD card So you need to move the files out of the SD card to somewhere else
Phone SD Card ---> USB OTG flash drive or some cloud backup ---> PC

What was wrong with the camera?

On sunday while using the camera I kept noticing that on viewfinder there was a little dark patch. it's slight but its very noticeable if the middle of the view is an area with pure single colour (like the sky).

If I move the view to align the dark patch to align with a light source like a ceiling light or lamp post, the light source seems to 'flare up' on the viewfinder, so I think it was the camera lens (not the outer lens cover piece) having issue. They managed to replace the camera module for me

Interesting but I wonder why would the coating on the camera lens as opposed to the cover wear off

actually my outer cover coating actually did wear off before as well (specifically a small nick in the coating), and it was pretty annoying, night shots would have light spikes coming out of every lamp post and car headlight.



I managed to DIY remedy it by buying a replacement cover from ebay. Luckily the lens cover was attached only by 2 screws so a replacement was easy. Try replacing it with a 'unibody phone' and you probably need to replace the whole back... save me a trip to alexandra rd

Im probably in the minority here but I definitely do not like the unibody idea on a smartphone because it makes the phone harder to service (and the fact that theres so many phone repair shops existing proves phone servicing has a big demand), and in some cases more expensive and time consuming.

People dont realise this because mostly they just care how nice a unibody design looks

Haha u ain't the only one. When buying a phone, I do look for teardown of it first. The reason I went with the g4 was cos it was like 4 pieces. Screen, motherboard, frame and rear cover. Amazing that it was held by screw not tape.

Contrast this with HTC m9, bongling amount of copper tapes and connectors. Sony phones that are water tight but taped all throughout. Fixing those under warranty would definitely result in damaging those tapes and the phone would never be held as securely as it once did.

Unfortunately, it seems that g4 and v10 are the last of such phones from lg.

Second time was 4 days including sat and sunday. Changed the mb, mb cover, camera, screen and the "metal" frame.
Both times i asked for a replacement hp. First time it was a low end 3G hp. Second time was LG G pro 2.
Both replacement hp can watsapp and surfweb, not much issue.

Yup, same here, sent my friend's G4 yesterday afternoon, received SMS on the same day 6pm, and collected this morning before work.

thankfully for newer bootloop victims the service centre has had 2.5 months of 'experience' dealing with this issue so the turnaround has become much faster

if you had hit the problem in Nov/Dec the wait was much longer especially if they ran out of replacement motherboards. You even had to demo the issue on the spot to the counter guy cos they hadnt yet recognized the issue. The length of my waiting period actually made me drop 300 bucks on getting a Mi4i to serve as backup

Whaaa.. U so good, got replacement phone from LG. Dat time when I send my LG G Pro 2 for servicing, I had to use my spare phone for days while they change the volume down strip for me..

It would be a great initiative if LG would do a 1 to 1 swap on problematic G4 with a Brand new G5. This way, can buy back trust of G4 users and gain more loyalty plus points and in terms increase market share... But if cos, this would not happen as dun think LG will be paying for the cost of brand new G5.

A good workable idea indeed. The marketing department
seems not able to hold certain truth about losing more and
more customers.

Perhaps LG could at least allow all those G4 users with such
problems to get the G5 at 50% discount. But is LG be
generous enough to act on this idea?
