If the 'standard' features of a phone (eg the battery life and camera sensor cited) are on par with key competing phones, I don't see any problems with a phone incorporating extra features. Worst case, I won't use the new feature. Best case, I might just find something I really like!

So far I've yet to use an LG smartphone but having played with the G4 and V10 at stores, I must say that LG offers many features that resonate with me (eg simple things like customisable home/back/recent apps buttons and a calendar app that allows me to read appts at a glance in the monthly view). And the new rumored features of the G5 like the Always-On second screen and magic slot really intrigue me.

So if the G5's camera quality, battery life and other key standard features are at least on par with the best that Samsung has to offer, I think I know what my next phone is going to be...

I think for camera wise, G4 needs to improve on point-and-shoot photography, which is what shines in iPhone and Samsung. The camera focus isn't as automatic as compared to competitors and have to tap on the subject or it might turn out slightly blurred. Probably, it is meant to excel in the manual camera department

Same like u, me never used an LG before. Hate to say this but iPhone's camera impressed (smoother experience and that's about it), even Samsung seems slower by a small bit which you can feel that tiny split second difference... Not sure if it is Android OS issue, it is just not as fluid and fast overall although on paper the specs is so much more powerful than iPhone prefers Android but not an overpriced Samsung, haizz.. it's a love and hate relationship lol

Bang and olufsen collaboration with lg has been made official.. They will be bringing more features on hifi audio.. This is getting more and more exciting for G5 launch

I think the g4 auto was ok in daylight but under low light it seems to lose to the auto mode of others. I think cos it lacks phase detection focus. Im ok using manual but i understand the need for auto as well.

I saw that news about the B&O collab with LG but im not sure how fruitful it will be. Remember that ZTE axon pro with 32 bit DAC? Im not really sure if it ended up wowing anyone. Theres always that issue of whether average consumer can even notice the difference in quality. Its not as easy as say a camera, where you can compare photo quality visually.

Its kind of like Apple where they keep forcing the phone to be thinner and thinner, thinking that somehow it's a kind of 'value-add'.

Hopefully other brands like Samsung focus on more meaningful things

We got two more days to guess what the G5 can do to surprise
the mobile phone community. If what the picture shows that
the magic slot can really hold such a bigger size battery, then
it will be a winner.

Of course all he leaks about G5 having a smaller battery
will go to the area of untruth. Pray for the best that LG
will beat the hell out of S7 or whatever the fruit will be coming
out with.

Actually I'm concerned for Samsung on Sunday... lol.

If LG manages to come up with a phone that dazzles with new innovative features that wow the crowd, the Samsung S7 launch event later in the day might just be a big yawn and be totally overshadowed by LG .... similar looking S7 smartphone, incremental improvements, nothing to really captivate the crowd.

But regardless, happy to see LG take on Samsung head on. Whether or not the G5 would eventually be an S7 killer, consumers benefit. Let the fight begin!

I think the people who tune in to MWC are only the 'techy' folk. The rest of my family dont even know what MWC is.

There's also going to be a bunch of techy people who are G4 owners and are super butthurt about the bootloop incident and how LG handled it... they might already be ready to boycott LG for 1 generation etc.

Samsung still has the better marketing prowess and thats how they've been able to sell better all the while. They could screw over their customers by taking microSD and removable battery out of the S6 and Note 5, and they still have better sales than LG

S7 looks pretty good as well (except I dislike the glass back). A lot of China brands seem to have stepped-up their game as well. This year shaping up to be good for new smartphones. Last year was kinda disappointing.

Last year indeed was kinda disappointing, only the flagships of Samsung(or maybe the Z5 too) interest me. Maybe it's due to the Snapdragon 810 saga last year that made many OEM shun from releasing their flagship.

This year seem more fun, S7 and G5 are phones many look forward to, the Mi 5 and Oppo Find 9 are also late flagships that were supposed to be released last year, which are also coming to the market soon too.

How LG lost the smartphone race .....

In the first half of 2009, LG was happy with its highest-ever
in the smartphone earnings power.

However they didn't realise that just two years down the
road, they had to face a horrible crisis which they still are
trying very hard to recover till today.

However in 2012, the management seemed to view that
it is possible the smartphone business will be transformed
if setting the trends on innovation be a priority and secondly
that it will be predicted only on the stage in Barcelona.

LG's revival has already begun and it is coming into its
4th year in 2016. Lets see what kind of surprise the G5
will have for us. We wish them the best.

Eh seriously, the internal battery shouldnt be small.

If i have to depend on the magic slot to give myself the 'normal' amount of battery life, whats gonna happen when I need the slot to be occupied by something else? If i plug in my fancy Bang and Olufson audio thing module into the slot, I will have high quality audio, and low quality battery life because the internal is only 2000mAh

Later LG came up with the LG Versa, perhaps its first
attachable Qwerty keyboard along with a virtual keyboard
on a touch screen.

So from then on LG has concentrated on making the
User Interface (UI) more and more friendly and easier for
the user to enjoy using.

Right till today with the V10, the UI is something it can be
proud of. Can be sure the G5 won't disappoint G3 and G4
consumers. We will see it tomorrow, be surprised!

I don't forsee the G5 having a "permanent small battery". My guess is that the battery in the leaked pic is a replacement for the battery that the G5 will come with (a standby second battery that you can swap to your G5). I've seen online rumors of the G5 having at least a 2800 mAh battery (maybe more). We'll know soon enough (fingers crossed) ... lol

Wouldn't that mean every Magic Slot module must have a battery?

On second thought, the default battery needs to be a respectable size, like you said 2800mAh, otherwise battery life would be bad when using other modules as mentioned earlier in the thread.

I'm struggling to see how they can fit the Magic Slot concept into a 5.3" phone, if that indeed is the size, without making the phone too large. I don't mind it being slightly thicker. However, the Koreans seem to be the best at miniaturization and squeezing in high end components into "small" phones. From the leaks so far it seems the G5 is slightly narrower than the G4 but slightly taller as well. This would seem to indicate a 5.3" display with a secondary display above. But I'm just guessing.

camera hump looks more exaggerated than the one one the dubai leak

seeing it in full view of the body i can already imagine myself missing the slim arc of the G4 if I ever own a G5. 5.5 inch is quite outside my comfort zone (to the point i have to choose phone cases very carefully to avoid extra bulk) but the slim arc helped the ergonomics a lot in holding it.

I still remember using the LG Arena, damn of a good phone! But the lag is killing the user experience. That's only phone I've used with an FM transmitter, no need for bluetooth dongle in the car still wondering till today why they didn't continue having that feature since the FM radio is still in the phone..

For the G5 I like the front but I hate the back
LG has made me accustomed to the back button for so long now I can't change my habits to side buttons anymore
