lets go back memory lane to the S6 and the G4. Back then the G4 (leather one) undercut the S6 by $70, definitely a more significant amount (to me 70 bucks is almost 1 month worth of EZ Link fare for daily commmute)

more importantly, the S6 and S7 shared the same launch price ($998 on 32GB model), while on the other hand, LG fans are starting to feel like they're paying more and more each year. Nobody cares if its 'premium metal' because every goddamm flagship out there is now premium metal.

Just hope that this 988 will drop within a few months just like the G4. My educated guess is, most of the people already got a S7, so the G5 undersells, then few months down the road, price all drop

The LG CAM Plus module offers physical camera buttons for power, shutter, record and zoom, and it comes with an additional 1,200 mAh battery for the LG G5.

The LG Hi-Fi Plus with B&O PLAY module is a portable Hi-Fi digital to analog converter (DAC) that turns the LG G5 into a 32-bit music playback device.

Both these modules are available at a launch price of $274 (Usual Price $456) from April 16 to May 31.

The LG G5 will go on sale in April, at a price of $988, and LG will be including an extra battery and charger, worth S$168, while stocks last.

LG will also introduce the LG Friends range of companion devices for the LG G5 in May.

tbh G5 is a disappointment zzz . I love the G3/G4 but LG decides to give it a new design and stick one extra camera at the rear for wide angle shots.

modules are expensive and who knows whether they can be used for the next flagship.

perhaps the module slot is the only interesting part of G5.

Imo, I do feel that the G5 looks ugly on the back, but yes, the module concept is the interesting part, that's the reason why I am going to get it. Though no choice but to wait for now, also hope the "street price" is much lower than the RRP.

LG's marketing seems to know that if the price is cheap,
consumers think it is a lousy product.

So the price has to match those top of the line to let potential
consumers feel that it is also another premium product.
Once they detect that the product is not moving, they have
no choice but to lower it else it is a dead end for them.

Overall, if you compare phone to phone, the LG G5 might not be as immensely appealing. In this release, LG has announced other companion devices to make the G5 part of an ecosystem.

There are add-on grips, 360 camera and VR goggles, music module that play 32-bit hi-res audio, a rolling robot for the home.

What I feel is that at least LG has broken conventions and released something that is innovative and for consumers to be excited about. Should the mobile industry continue to focus solely on photo quality, on processor speed, on battery life, on 4K screens, etc.?

Battery life yes, the industry should focus on it. Because it's just plain clear that they arent focusing on it now. Companies like Apple think its more important to slim down a phone rather than fatten up the battery capacity and we had so many flagships in 2015 whose battery either stayed the same (LG) or reduced in capacity (samsung). Literally how many devices recently even bothered to focus on battery? Two in the entire market (redmi 3, zenfone max).

Ive talked before about companies trying to get too creative, and cited Asus as example (remember the Padfone?). The problem with creativity is that if its not handled well, people arent going to buy into it. The G5 is still testing the water and imo LG missed the mark in making a design where you have to transplant the battery to do a module swap, instead of making it just pull-out, push-in.

LG Ceo took immediate action regarding the old technology
used by Apple in the iPhone SE, else people will think that
what SE can offer is something new and can throw away their
DSLR!

Asus took the lead in being innovative, however they lose out
when they stick on with using slower processor and didn't know
how to connect with others.

LG is not going to follow the footpath of Asus. They make sure
their flagship phone uses the current high speed processor and
also have equal friendly connections with the rest of the
complimentary partners. They move away from the "laziness"
of trying to make new innovations. If Steve Jobs is still around,
it may be a different story.

The current modular ecosystem in G5 is the first of its kind in
the world and we have to thank the CEO for its implementation.
We know it is not perfect as this is just the tip of the iceberg.

We strongly believe that if LG loyal consumers were to sincerely
discuss seriously what they want and suggest ideas without
asking for rewards, in the end LG may come out with a device
of our dreams and hold up their slogan "Life is Good"!

The path to the top is always a lonely path e.g. making
the battery removable when all others are not doing
it.

The question is:
Did others dare to do it, if not why not?
