any news of our retailers selling PC-101 casing? passed by AIM today and sa it on display ( but the V-1000B next to it pretty much stolen the limelight for me)

no, i'm not tempted to get PC-101. I'm still looking at PC-767, else getting a PC-7 or 60. AIM haven't reply my 2nd e-mail yet regarding 767

attempting to get the PC-767 got hit with another setback. the AIM salesperson i spoke to says that they do not intent to bring it in, stating that it's no longer in their website and cause more paper work if they bring it in.

looks like i will finally be getting in from prolink, at a somewhat higher price that i original budgeted ( $375, was the price at potterhouse until i tried ordering and got replied they have no stock and not intent to restock). if they are only selling the display set, i may have to visit Malaysia

if all else fails, i guess i will have to wait for A10 or B20

my quest for a new casing started since May last year. it started with an antec sonata, which soon became an antec P180, then a PC-6070 earlier this year and finally to the PC-767. when potterhouse inform me that it no longer had stock, i began looking at the V series, as well as PC-101, and lately the newer A-10/B20 casing.

about 2 hours ago, i finally muster enough willpower to get the PC-767 from prolink after almost buying it there twice before this. this was however, the display set, which i was told was the only one left in retail in singapore. while the cost is only $20 off the offical price, it was still a little higher than what i original wanted to get from potterhouse, and i was disappointed that they would not want to include the air duct and blower which was stated in their website. i opt out from buying from them although they say they were selling me cheaper, the blower alone they offered me is still a little MORE EXPENSIVE than ATF (!). i was sucked in to the the casing at their price as they were saying there's only 1 shipment of 5 of this cases sold in singapore and that there no intentions of bringing in more shipments, including the "Plus" version, and i comfirm with AIM a few days back

the box that came with it is pretty beat up, and since the casing was the display set, had lots of finger prints. i will examine it more detail tomorow, hopefully no real damages to the casing as i intent to keep this for at least 5-10 yrs ( will the power/ reset button and led last that long?!)

hopefully i can figure enough what to do with it and start putting my other components into it, and learn how to take pictures of it with my phone ( i got no camera!)

the insides

other stuff

sorry for the low quality image

the casing is extremely dusty. took me forever to get much of the dust and dirt off. however, most of the finger prints remained. even with ipa ( 100%, or at least i was told) couldn't get much of it off. hopefully i can find some time to visit a hardware shop to find some cleaning stuff, or at least a good light source that i was thinking to put inside the case

even though it's 2mm thick, the casing still feels fragile to me. maybe becos it's light? :s22:

How much u paid for it? I saw it in Taipei for less than S$300.

i got chopped carrot head. $380. somemore is the old version :(

a week before, i try out on buying one from one of cnet's picks. the price for the casing itself is ok... about US195 or so, but the shipping is more than US$250

the time someone got put up a mass order of lian li casing, but was not comfortable of committing then. oh well

sorry. haven't transfer anything into it yet. i will hopefully do it next weekend. nothing special anyway

still have things to work out before i do the transfer though

externals

1x dvd-rw ( black), 1x cd-rw ( plain)
1x floppy ( plain)
1x coolermaster power indicator ( black)

internals

coolermaster realpower psu ( black)
abit kn8 ultra ( red)
stock 939 x2 amd hsf ( heatpipe version)
1x powercolor x1600pro ( red, stock hsf)
1x sound card ( black)
2x hdd
1x ide cable for optical drive ( normal flat, greyish)
2x sata cables ( 1 red, 1 grey)

1. since there's only 1 31/2" convertor, i guess i will ditch my floopy and keep the power indictor

2. i will replace my older cd-rw with a black dvd-rw

3. i have a 51/4" card reader which i bought to replace a 3.5" one since i don't have the spare slot for it, and will likely go into it

4. my psu only has the atx cable sleeved. i got some cable wraps earlier, so hopefully i got enough to wrap all the cables up.

5. i gotten some makeshift filters ( white hairnet i use at work), hopefully i can find someway to make it stick behind the empty drive bays to reduce dust. the solo filter at the hdd rack i would think is not enough to reduce dust from entering much. however, it will be best if i could use better filters as the hairnets are of very light constructions, and unlikely to last long. so alternative suggestions is welcome

6. i'm thinking of putting some battery operated lights into the casing so that i have more light sources later on if i need to work in the casing when all other power source is disconnected.. however, i still need to determine what light bulb(?!) is suitable, what position and what size so that it can be useful

7. i got a spare 8cm fan i can use for additional cooling. where can i best use this fan, or do i really need it? i'm guess i need more cooling around the expansion slots, so i might suspend it using the space which would have gone into the blower fan

8. what can i use to protect the case from the elements of time? the ipa i'm using didn't really take care of all the finger prints. lucky, the externals appears ok, but the mobo tray area is :s22:

9. main thing i want from the casing is that i'm hoping it can last me through 5-10yrs. the optional btx backplate will be hard to get hold of if i ever need to get into that route. i

i don't have much experience in actual pc building ( although i been using a comp since 286 era), so any tips, walkthroughs or the like is gladly welcome. google itself didn't gave much help as i only see 1 person posting pictures of it in hardforums, and 4 other hw reviews which didn't help too much. hopefully the case transfer will go through seamlessly

slight update. was suppose to transfer into the casing today, but end up needing to figure what and how stuff into it

getting the side panels off/on the casing was tough, as although there is a dent for side panel removal on each panel, the panel itself was too smooth to make it very useful. the black left panel is ok, but the sliver right panel was really diffcult. it left a gap between the casing and the panel when closing

getting the bezels and the hdd module was also diffcult. took me a long time wriggle them out. but once its out, the casing is rather spacious

tried my hand on a little pre routing, but hit the wall on what i originally planned

after turning the after 120mm fan around as well as mounting the fan grill the other side so that it will blow out instead of inwards ( the fan logo side if the side that takes air in from?), i took an hr or more trying to wriggle the fan connecto rout via a small hole under the mobo position

however, once the connector got through to the other side, i found the the cable lenght is too short to reach the fan controller. another hr or so was spend trying to get the fan connector out again

didn't find a solution to mount my make shift filter properly, so i end up tieing it to the bezel. it sticks out really bad, but that's the job for a door to take care of. i move the default position of the 31/2" bezel down a notch, so that the make shift filter will occupy the top. hopefully i can use that space to hide my excess cables. route the reset/power buttons and the usb port cables through the unused 51/2" slots. left it unsleeve for now, as i may have to take it down again if the cable lenght turns out short again
