My approach is different.
If was me I would be friendly. Not so much with me talking so much but with me finding positives about them to sincerely support and praise.
Not fake but try to find real things that can connect with them or understand.

Listen then say that's good. You are doing well. Encourage. Cheer them on.

Maybe during party or gathering then pay to bring some good food. People say Wah so nice where you buy from? Contribute to the party well. People remember.

Was asking a friend out for coffee this afternoon then out of nowhere, he mentioned that a common friend had suddenly passed away at 45 years old! Fell into coma, and had a vein burst in the brain.. Coincidentally, I was thinking of asking him out for coffee recently..

Just two years ago, the deceased friend was sharing with me that he was looking to retire soon as his job was hectic, and he had accumulated wealth through multiple property investments..

RIP.

maybe he overworked... leading to vein burst in brain... rip...
